Things I’m Loving Thursday: 16 Oct 14

It’s Thursday and I’m ready for Friday.

I know, I know.

I should seize the day and be thankfuk for the day at hand… I agree.

But seriously- Friday.

In honor of “seizing the day,” here are a few things putting a smile on my face.

Pure Protein Chocolate Salted Caramel Bars

TILT

I mentioned my love for their dark chocolate coconut bars a few weeks ago, and the salted caramel bars also make the list.

So so good. These were my go-to snacks when I was surrounded by no healthy options over the weekend.
Ruth’s Chris’ broiled tomatoes

Okay I get it.

When I say Ruth’s Chris, broiled tomatoes probably aren’t the first thing that comes to mind.

I respect that.

But seriously. Broiled tomatoes. Dead.dead.dead.

They somehow caramelize the tops and the skin is super tender. I can’t even take it.

In addition to getting them as part of my dinner (hello vegetable plate!), I also ordered them as a side.

Don’t judge.

I Found You- Anthony Evans
Tilt

I don’t watch The Voice, but if you do you might remember Anthony Evans from season 2.

This guy- he’s got some pipes!

I love this song for a variety of reasons. It also has a great trance feel in several parts which makes is really fun.

This throwback Thursday pic
Brittny Flint-4 yrs old & home from 1st dance recital

So much material here.

I fear I pretty much spent the 80s wearing SPF zero, hence the ultra rosy cheeks.

Oh, and if I could, I would totally still wear that tutu. Ha!

What I find funniest is that I was big into dance classes at that age. I can barely count to eight these days, let alone figure out how to coordinate flowy movement within the numbers. What!?!

Mary Kay Warm Amber
Oh my gosh. I’ve probably mentioned this scent a million times on the blog already (Actually, I have. Ha), but seriously.

This scent.

It’s only $25 and smells expensive and like a dream. I love wearing this scent in the fall.

Do it.

In fact, I’m making an order soon so let me know if you’re interested.

Big Sexy Hair Powder Play
I got this sample like a year ago (and posted about it!) and recently started using it again and forgot how much I love it.

It adds some serious root volume and really gets in there and adds some pow, that’s for sure. I just sprinkle it on my scalp in places I need volume, give it a rub, and am good to go!

The forecast this weekend!
It is going to be absolutely beautiful! I’m so very excited and hope to spend some time outdoors sipping tea and hanging with the people I love most.

TILT

Alright friends, that’s all for now! Anything you care to share?

50 things I did on my day off

Here’s an ever so thrilling look at my day off last Friday. smile

1. Got up early
2. Debated whether or not I wanted to run.
3. Decided I didn’t want to run
4. Ran anyway.
5. Cried.
6. Got home, made a shake. Girls, I make a mean shake.
7. Realized my license expires this month.
8. Thought about how much I really didn’t want to get a new license.
9. Decided I really didn’t have a choice.
10. Contemplated how ready I needed to get in order to get a picture taken.
11. Decided to get semi-ready.
12. Realized that was ridiculous. I’m getting a license picture! Decided to actually get ready.
13. Decided all license pictures look bad no matter how ready one gets, decided to go halfway.
14. Got my new license. The picture turned out fair. Surprisingly, I look way darker than I really am. I’ll take it.
15. Went to Zam Zams for lunch with P!
16. Missed Kuwait. That place always makes me nostalgic.
17. Mulled over the menu. Too many choices.
18. Settled on the veggie platter. They use “veggie platter” very loosely.
19. Enjoyed P’s company. Talked tons.
20. Ate almost my entire “veggie” platter. Gosh I love hummus and baba ghanoush (Told you they used the word veggie loosely).
21. Said goodbye and headed to the grocery store.
22. Tried to find a decent parking space
23. Gave up and parked in the back.
24. Got a cart.
25. It proceeded to lock up and squeal like nails on a chalkboard.
26. Got another cart. It didn’t squeak as bad… I’m destined to get every bad cart.
27. Contemplated breakfast foods.
28. Settled on oats, as usual. I’m so old boring. One day I’m going to get totally wild snd come home with some bold and exciting. Like Grapenuts. (HELP ME)
29. Finished up, paid, and even saved a couple dollars in coupons. Woo hoo!
30. Unloaded groceries, made a special dessert for Will.
31. Cried because it smelled so good.
32. “Evened out the frosting” by eating it.
33. Went and saw my mom and Layla.
34. Played barbies
35. Talked about all that was going on (with my mom mostly… A little with Layla too. smile )
36. Initiated some deep and meaningful artwork from the Olivia coloring book.
37. Got slightly annoyed that Layla kept taking all the colors I wanted and wouldn’t let me finish my masterpiece.
38. Realized how ridiculous I was being.
39. Decided to give myself a pass. I mean, how often do I get to color!?
40. Went home, spent some time reading Isaiah and in prayer.
41. Woo hoo! Will came home. Greeted Will.
42. Scolded the dogs for being way to loud and rambunctious for his arrival. But seriously- dog greetings are the best.
43. Drove to the Honda shop to pick up our beloved oldie Honda.
44. They couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Awesome.
45. Made a giant plate of roasted vegetables for dinner. Was in heaven. Will, not so much.
46. Served Will his dessert.
47. Evened out the piece a little by eating some off the edge. You know, to help make it look prettier.
48. Had a rice cake. Totally the same as Will’s dessert. Except not at all the same as Will’s dessert.
49. Watched a show on the couch with Will and the pups.
50. Washed my face, flossed, brushed my teeth, took my vitamins and called it a night. I needed my rest for the OU-TCU road trip Saturday!

Whew. So you now know all the exciting events of my most recent day off. smile What are you up to today?

Check in tomorrow for Ezra chapter four!

Tuesday Things, 7 October 2014

Guys, there’s a fly in our house that I can’t catch, and it’s driving me batty.

It's a proverbial cat and mouse game, only with me as the unlucky seeker and the fly as the annoyingly speedy hider.

It consumed the better portion of my first half hour after getting home yesterday, and I still came up empty handed.

Perhaps the spider will take care of him for me? Shudder.

Well girls, Will put me to work last week.

My husband put me to work (and a Teddy photobomb)

Our beloved Teddy, while adorable and rambunctious, is also a digger.

So, we’ve been spending time over the last couple weeks leveling the back yard.

It’s been a blast.

Except not.

I will say I’ve gotten quite an upper body workout with all the shoveling!

I’ve also been brushing up on my art skills
I was shocked Layla stayed put long enough to for me to work on this masterpiece.

I don't want to brag, but I crush coloring.

I don't want to brag, but I crush coloring.

I entitled it “Olivia paints a masterpiece.” smile

She kept taking every color I had in my hand, obviously because she was jealous of my superior coloring skills. I powered through and didn’t let her bring me down.

I wasn’t able to finish, but I’ll be back. You can count on that.

I’m so mature.

I didn’t get a data usage warning this month!
You can usually set your clocks to the text message I get alerting me of my data usage.

I’m pretty pumped this month because I didn’t get one!

I’ve really been trying to limit my time online. I’m tired of wasting time on nonsense that isn’t edifying myself or others.

I decided I want to be more intentional with how I peruse and post on social media. If I can’t honor God or encourage others, I’m not going to waste time with it.

Anyway, I was pretty excited not to get a data alert. Praying I will be wise with my time online this month, too.

It’s Monopoly time at McDonald’s again
Which means Will is killing me.

I don’t know what it is, but he gets sucked in every.single.year.

He’ll find any reason for me not to cook dinner so he can get fast food for himself (I just warm up frozen veggies and call it good). He’s already got a fat stack of codes (laid throughout the house) and it just started!

We also drove a little further on the way home from the game last weekend so we could go to McDonald’s instead of the other options a few miles earlier.

I even obliged his obsession by ordering something with peel offs.

I’m dying guys.

Alright, that’s my randomness for the day. Anything you care to share?

Tuesday Things, 30 Sept 14

I broke down and started taking allergy medication.

I know. You’re probably wondering why I waited.

Yeah, yeah, I know.

Historically it’s made me feel worse over the years. However, at this point I’m not sure I could get worse, so in a moment of weakness I got all crazy and slammed an allergy pill.

It’s getting wild around here ya’ll.

This Pure Protein Bar
This.

Before Quest Bars were all the rage, Pure Protein was my go to bar for snacks on long road trips.

I had a couple coupons to use the other day and picked up some of their new flavors. I got a salted caramel one I have yet to try, and then this dark chocolate coconut one. It is delicious!

Sometimes when I stay up past 10, I send wacky text messages to my sister

Deep thoughts with my adult "kid" sister

Actually happened.

But seriously- she can still do a cartwheel.

I feel like since I workout, I should still be able to do one too, but then I realize working out does not necessarily equate to being able to flip your entire body over your head.

So yeah. No cartwheeling.

12 graphs that show why people get fat

Interesting read.

Something weird is happening...again

It never fails. At some point in any given year, I suddenly remember I don’t hate doing static cardio.

Sometimes.

Just like every year before, it’s back again.

I find it crucial to take advantage of the opportunities when this bug bites, because it doesn’t last forever!

I’ve logged lots of steady state cardio over the last few weeks and have also listened to lots of good podcasts. Double win.

Our DVR is full of shows
As usual, we tape a million series and never get around to watching them all because of our schedule.

We keep up with our favorites, but a lot of times we don’t even watch some until the Christmas lull when they show reruns for weeks on end.

More importantly, can we please talk about how this is the last season of Parenthood? It’s pretty much my favorite show and I’m totally bummed. It’s like the last show about “life,” everything else is about cops, mysteries, unrealistic dramas. Can’t we just have a regular old show about life??

Sheesh.
Obviously I’m very close to this. smile

The Sooners are on the road to TCU this weekend

The horned toads are getting all crazy and doing a purple out Saturday.

I can only hope the sooner fans travel well and wear the most Crimson of reds.

I can’t think of many colors that clash worse. smile

That’s it for today.

Any randomness you care to share?

The Sneezy One & Look Ahead

This past weekend was dictated by allergies.

Is anyone else completely mouth breathing and nose blowing every twelve minutes?

Sheesh.

Halfway through the weekend I ran out of tissues and just started carrying around a roll of toilet paper.

Halfway through the weekend I ran out of tissues and just gave up altogether. #allergies

Classy.

Oh, and hi.

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday. Heh heh

Anyway, hopefully you had a healthful weekend full of fun fall activities.

OU was on a bye, so we got a small break before hitting it hard again. I’ll take it!

As we head into the weekend recap, I have to lead with how much my dogs hate by brother in law.

It’s so strange!

We first got the pups while home on vacation from Kuwait way back in 2006 (so long ago!).

the babies

My BIL was still a young vet student, and I remember him goofing around and giving our little teeny pups a big scare by barking menacingly.

They hated him from the start. He never had a chance.

What’s weird, is that he’s only seen them a small handful of times since the 2006 incident.

Let’s be real here.

While I love my Boz and Lucy, Maltese are not exactly the most intelligent breeds when stacked up against the others.

But they sure are cute!

Anyway, it’s hilarious that my goofy airhead dogs can still remember their hatred for him after all these years and such infrequent encounters.

Or maybe it’s that they know he’s a vet?

I have no idea.

Anyway, when he stayed with us last week, they went absolutely bananas.

Good times.

Anyway, the weekend was sneezy but restful. I was off Friday and started the day working my back, biceps, and shoulders.

I even did some cardio. Woo hoo! smile

I spent the entire morning cleaning house, and the afternoon hanging out with my mom and Layla.

The afternoon was much better than the morning!

Will got home earlier than expected, which made me happy!

Soon after, we set out to pick up our car from the shop. Will and I had to get some work done on the old ‘98 Honda, and it was ex-pen-sive.

The fun of being an adult. Ha!

Will went to the OSU game with his brother the night before and got home super late, so Friday night was low key and ended early!

Saturday morning started early.

No rest for the weary.

Will worked the morning, and I headed to the gym.

My legs are still paying for that session!

I didn’t do any new exercises but just completely reversed the order, and it made a difference!

I hobbled my tired legs to the treadmill and also managed to do 30 minutes of cardio, too. I’m committed to these fall goals!

The highlight was when me, my mom, and my dad were all in a line running on the treadmills. Family affair at the gym y’all!

Then if was on to tea and coffee with P and Layla! It was a beautiful morning and perfect for sitting outside.

I even spent half an hour reaping the benefits of my dad’s hard labor. He went crawling in the attic to retrieve some of the ancient Barbie stuff they kept from our childhood.

Oh my goodness. Fun times. I meant to take a picture but totally forgot.

I’m pretty sure P and I were even more excited than Layla. Haha

After that, it was boring errands and such.

Soooo, with Will’s recent schedule, he’s had a Saturday afternoon ritual of coming home from work and taking a nap.

Will, bless his heart, likes me to rest with him.

And guys, I try, I really do.

I just can’t.

I can’t take a nap smack dab in the middle of a Saturday afternoon with things to do or enjoy.

Nonetheless I still try, but I’m terrible. I’m like a 5 year old boy who just loaded himself up on an entire box of fruit snacks.

I try to quietly multitask on my phone, but inevitably I accidentally push the home button too hard and inquiry Siri, which wakes Will.

Or I’ll try and quietly sneak out, which wakes Will.

Or I’ll even do nothing and really try hard to go to sleep. I’ll doze for about 15 minutes, and then wake up, and try to position myself somehow in a way that will allow me to fall asleep again.

Which inevitably wakes Will.

You get the picture.

We are getting off track, and taking forever to recap a rather quiet weekend.

In fact, let’s get fast forward a bit and take a look at what’s coming up this week!

-Tuesday Things
-Why I love working out part two
-The art of female face shaving (not kidding!)
-Ezra chapter three

I have lots of fun things planned this week, and I hope you’ll stop by.

Now off to blow my nose A-GAIN. Here’s to a day full of blessings, mouth breathing and all. smile

Thursday Things, 23 Sept 14

Confession- I have not seen Frozen.

I know.

Can we still be friends?

Will’s brother is staying with us Thursday night.

Usually visitors call for fanfare and creation of the fake house, but as you may recall, I’m going a little more lax on all that craziness.

Sure I want the house to look nice, but I’m not going to kill myself to dust baseboards tomorrow night for our guest.

It’s about balance.

And hospitality.

And offering dessert never hurt either. smile

I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed when I look at my upcoming calendar.

I don’t know why, but it seems to be hitting me hard. I stopped being a worrier a long time ago, yet recently it’s begun to creep up inside my heart and I hate that!

I mentioned big changes soon, and part of it is related to that, as well as other things. Praying for peace and the ability to gracefully plow through

I wash my hands about 20 times a day

This seems a little excessive, yes?

Essentially it’s like getting up every hour from whatever I’m doing and taking two minutes to wash up.

I obviously don’t methodically time all this crazy hand washing, but between constantly picking up after & handling dogs, handling food, picking up after & handling dogs, bathroom breaks, picking up after & handling dogs…

Well you get the idea.

Anyway, between all that and weightlifting I’ve given up on soft, beautiful hands.

I have this slight suspicion people are alarmed by my man hands and firm grip the first time they meet me. Ha!

Still no spider
Still freaking out.

Fantasy Football is going well

Mostly.

The team Will and I made together is kind of average so far. We had AD in our league so we had to pick up another running back when he was suspended, and the players we have that usually put up big points haven’t been as stellar.

We’re 2-1, and I’ll take it. Let’s hope the rest of the season is a winner.

Layla is killing me with her adorableness

Nothing new, but now we are buddies. Now she can say my name and ask me to come with her. She can take my hand and she can tell me she’s happy to see me.

I can have a terrible day, and her small, pure gestures of love can make me forget everything. Be still my heart.

Please tell me you still have things on last weekends to-do list that didn’t get done.

Even with the away game, and seemingly more time available, Will and I still managed to avoid a handful of things we’ve been putting off and need to get done.

Procrastination at its finest.

Sooo last week I bought French bread for a recipe we didn’t end up making.

And then proceeded to eat the entire loaf myself throughout various times the rest of the week.

I bought another loaf this week thinking I’d be able to make the recipe for which the bread would be a njce accompaniment.

But yeah… Probably not going to happen with our schedule this week.

I’m in carb coma over here guys. Help!

Anything you care to share?

Thursday Things 18 Sept 14

Not a new love by any stretch (as you can see, this mug has been very, very loved), but I love my big half gallon mug.

Loving

Incase you’re wondering, yes I get asked if coffee is in there all.the.time.

I used to feel ridiculous carrying this thing around all the time. Now it’s attached to me and I don’t care. If im going somewhere, chances are the mugs going with me.

That’s just how it’s gotta be.

The cutest little football player you ever did see.

It’s, um, never that you will hear me say I want to pick up a football player and carry him in my pocket, but guyssss check out the accidental glitch the new Madden had for one of the Tennessee Titans players.

Ahh I know the word “adorable” doesn’t typically come to mind when discussing football- but seriously, isn’t this adorable?

Loving

image

The best part yet is that his size doesn’t matter for the game. He can still break tackles, make tackles, and everything in between. Sweet!

iPhone...5

Yeah, I realize everyone’s going mad for the new iPhone 6 gear, but truth is- I’m just thankful they’re recalling the battery on my 5 so I can get it replaced for free!

It’s the small things.

116 by Trip Lee

116

It’s no secret I love hip hop, but over the last year God had touched my heart about the things I listen to and watch.

The good news is that Christian music these days is actually enjoyable. Not only does it praise my God, but it’s actually uplifting and positive too.

Trust me. It’s hard to cut someone off In traffic listening to AirOne radio. smile

Anyway, if you like Lecrae, you’ll like Trip Lee, whose part of his label.

My dad’s drum set Tuesday night

Girls, my dad killed it Tuesday! While he did not win, I was so proud that he entered and tried.

Plus his set totally rocked. I also loved that everyone else were kids and my dad was the only “old guy” and totally crushed it.

For your listening pleasure...

Expect to see a review soon. I got lots of pretties!

Things I'm loving Thursday
Hello beautiful fall weather! The temperature for the OU game will be fantastic!

Surprise calls
Layla had been savvy with the iPhone since she was a baby. Now, however, she also knows how to get into P’s contacts and make calls based on the pictures stored next to the name.

I was quite surprised when Layla called me Monday. We had a deep conversation about blankies and stuffed ducks.

Real life.

I wish I could tell you the days of getting the shot with my eyes accidentally closed were over, but, yeah…

Suave Moroccan Oil Conditioner

Things I'm loving Thursday

Im a fan of most Suave products, and this stuff is no different. I was shocked with just how soft this conditioner left my hair. A little dab will do ya, so keep that in mind!

Alrighty lovelies, that’s it for me! Anything you’re loving this week?

Tuesday Things, 9 Sept 14

-I’m pretty pumped about this Saturday’s game.

We have a home and home scheduled with Tennessee, and they’ll be here this week to take on the Sooners. Should be a fun one!

Speaking of, I think know technology has made Will’s fantasy football football obsession worse.

Way worse.

When we first got together you’d have to go to your desktop computer and put in your lineup.

Then you’d watch the games broadcasted on the main networks.

And you’d only check your scores every so often. After all, you’d have to be near your desktop computer.

Now not only does he have Sunday Ticket and every app and mobile device known to man, but he can watch on his phone.

I’m dead.

I was lucky enough to get to sample Skintimate’s Mandarin Burst shave gel.
Confession- when it comes to shaving, I am usually a soap and water gal.

Don’t judge, I already know.

Sample

Anyway, I gotta say I loved getting to try this stuff out. It smells amazing and yes, as we already know, Skintimate is far better than plain old soap and water. Lesson learned.

Oh my goodness sake.

Have you seen this video of the tarantula dog that’s gone viral?

I don’t know if it’s the fact that I have dogs or that I hate spiders, but oh my goodness guys I was cackling when I watched this video. Tears were streaming down my face, and I couldn’t catch my breath.

It’s not that funny, but I just couldn’t stop laughing.

Okay guys, do you know about the Walmart Savings Catcher?

Do it.

That’s pretty much the only place I buy groceries and I’ve used it three times and already have almost $3 accumulated on a gift card.

I realize that’s peanuts, but considering I did absolutely nothing for it and shop there all the time, I figure I might as well make some money if they’re going to do the work. Win.

Speaking of gift cards, we had a gift card to the Cheesecake Factory that was set to expire last night so we placed a to-go order to use it up.

Seriously- why is that place so great?

Or so terrible?

I suppose they’re one in the same.

I got one if their lightened up salads and skipped getting dessert.

I was so proud of myself.

Only, when I went to pick it up they took a little longer than anticipated. I was super nice about it and chatted the staff up and when I got to leave they threw in an extra piece for being so nice.

I was so proud I had the willpower not to order cheesecake. Aaaand then they took a long time and I was super nice about it and they threw in an extra piece for my kindness. Dead.

Dead.

I ate the gut bombs and am going to let Will eat my non vegan cheesecake...though I might eat the chocolatey bits?

So dead.

Since we’re talking food, the Oklahoma State Fair starts this weekend.

One of the newly debuted foods is fried gummy bears.

I’m not sure I’m down? I mean, fried anything is good I suppose. However, given the choice, if I’m going to cheat on my macros, just shut up and give me a fried Snickers. smile

Check in tomorrow to talk about why we need to change up our routine

Royal Tailor-Making Me New

Thursday things

This one is fun, upbeat, and definitely a good one for a workout

Soffe Cloth Shorts

Thursday things

This is not a new love. It’s a very, very old one.

I wear the dickens out of these shorts and have one for every day in the week!

I wear these all summer around the house, and they are my go-to shorts for at-home workouts.

They’re super cheap, too. I’ve had all my pairs for years, and they are still in decent shape.

MuscleTech Cookies & Cream Protein

Dead. Let's hope it's a good as I want it to be.

I hoped it would be delicious, and it didn’t disappoint.

To be fair, I’ve only used it to make a smoothie and haven’t tried it the good old fashioned way (just stirred up with water). It was delicious in the smoothie though!

Pixi Tinted Balm in Pretty Pink

July Ipsy
I got this color in last month’s Ipsy.
These days, I usually try to use up what I have before starting a new color. Mainly because I have about 30 opened lipsticks and lip glosses that are all half used. However, when I got this I knew it would be a winner. I’ve used this stuff daily and will definitely buy it again.

So much material here.

Without getting too brutal about my cheesy grin and floppy hair (let’s be gentle with baby Brittny, please) can we please laugh about how I’m totally lounging inside my toy box all reading it up like it’s completely normal?

Good times.

That’s all for now. If you need me, I’ll be hanging in my Strawberry Shortcake toy box reading…
