The One Where We Skipped & a Week of Thankfulness

We broke a streak Saturday and it.felt.so.wrong.

We didn’t go to the OU-Kansas game.

We go to games.

All the games.

However, like hundreds of others, we skipped Saturday.  The stands were spotty and it made me sad.

Surprisingly, I was more bothered about not going than Will was.

“We go to games, that’s what we do. We can’t just not go to a game!”

But yeah, we did.

It felt weird watching at home. I suppose it was rather nice in some ways, though.

Not only was there a 90 minute rain delay, but it rained the entire game and everything was a sopping wet mess.

Can we also talk about what a straight BEAST the man child Samaje Perine is?

Not only did he break two school records, one Big 12 record, and a NCAA record as a freshman.

Good times.

Whew.

I kind of shot off with OU talk and got the weekend recap out of order.

Sorry about that. smile

The weekend.

Was lovely.

I crushed a super sweaty lifting and cardio session Friday.

Embracing intervals

I shopped for Thanksgiving not thinking it would be that busy.

I was wrong.

I got to spend a few hours with my mom and this turkey. It was so very nice.

My favorite turkey

I enjoyed Friday.

Saturday was weird since we didn’t go to the game, but it was still nice.

Will worked that morning, and I hit the gym to do a leg circuit and quick cardio session. I wanted to workout longer, but I had to hurry to take the littles to the vet for shots!

Poor babies, the round they got Saturday only comes around every few years, so it left them feeling puny and sickly all day.

Although I hated it for them, they sure we’re snuggly all day. I enjoyed that part.

My precious littles.

According to our vet they’re officially “seniors” now. My sweet pups are no longer spring chickens. Sad!

The rest of Saturday was all about college football, which we already covered. smile

We watched some shows later that evening, but around 7:00 Will decided we should take a quick snooze- just for an hour- so we could power through a few more hours that night.

I specifically remember telling him I hate doing that. Our history has proven we can’t take a “quick snooze” at night. We always end up just going to sleep for the night.

Will said this was different. That he just needed a little pick me up.

Sooo we took a quick snooze.

And woke up a little after 6:00 yesterday morning.

Yeah. Quick snooze. Ha!

We went to the early service, and were blessed by a great message.

The rest of the day was the usual- workout, Colts game, food prep, and relaxing.

Now we start the week, and I do so with big excitement! It’s a short week. Woo hoo!

I’m not often ecstatic about Monday, but I am today. I love this week and this whole time of year.

In fact, that’s what’s coming up on the blog this week! A Week of Thankfulness.

Each post this week will be devoted to something different.

That way I don’t have to try to lump it all into a giant, mushy post.

You can thank me later.

I hope you’ll check in throughout the week, and also leave a comment in the Share the Love section to express the things you’re thankful for too.

Stop by tomorrow! Until then, here’s to a good Monday.

On Life Lately

Let’s talk a little about what’s going on in the B-Love household these days.

There’s something I really really want to share with you guys, but I need to wait just a little longer.

I’ve mentioned changes multiple times lately, and that’s what I’m talking about yet again.

It’s annoying when people do that, yes?

Anyway, things are changing and getting a little crazier earlier than expected, but I am counting my blessings and trusting God to give us grace to get through the madness.

I look forward to sharing more soon. Until then, yay for cryptic posts! Except not.

My parents visited my grandparents last weekend, and unfortunately my grandma is not doing so hot again.

Last Thanksgiving, my family and I surprised her and spent a few days visiting her while she had chemo.

She got better and had a clean bill of health after her last round, praise God, but over the last couple weeks her health started to deteriorate again.

I’m so blessed to have three of my four grandparents alive. They live far away it hurts how little I see them. I’m thankful for technology and being able to call, and am reminded I need to do just that on my way home today.

The dogs?

The dogs are good.

Good and old!

Couch potatoes

(Don’t get me started on why that couch is still in the living room. That’s another story...)

When did the babies turn into grannies!?

I still feel like Boz and Lucy are my young pups, but they’re 8 1/2 if you can believe it. They’re still naughty and adorable as ever, though they’ve definitely slowed down a bit recently (haven’t we all!? 😣).

The Bigs are good too. If this cold weather continues, I have a feeling I’ll be having two extra house guests earlier than anticipated.

(Update! We did last night)

Happy Teddy

When it gets ultra frigid, we bring their kennels inside and they stay the nights inside those. Though they’d certainly like to roam around, they are very much contained. Haha

The littles hate it. They kind of have mean girl syndrome.

(Update again: they did hate it as I expected)

Layla is killing me.
My favorite Minnie

Seriously.

Every time I see her my heart nearly beats out of my chest and I am overwhelmed by just how much I love that little girl.

She’s talking so much now, and it is absolutely hilarious (though I’m not sure P agrees at times haha). Remember all the things we said as kids that probably mortified our parents? Yeah, Layla is approaching that phase soon. Haha I’m sure it gives my parents a good laugh, seeing everything come full circle.

Work.

I started with a new company this past March. This company is so so wonderful and incredibly generous and good to its employees.

I still have new girl moments, which I kind of hate, but I figure they will continue to become few and far between with each passing week.

As for other things, Will and I have a mounting list of stuff we need to get done, but with the aforementioned cryptic changes, and football season in full swing, it’s been slow going.

I think he’s still set on selling our remaining two games, so maybe that will free up some time to tackle overhauling the jam packed office as well as a couple other daunting undertakings.

In terms of us handling the changes, I think we are doing well? I’m only half of the couple, so I suppose I should confirm with him, too. Haha

While things are certainly underway, we haven’t really felt the full blow of everything just yet, and I know it will come with some initial pain. I continue to pray each day and trust that the Lord will continue to navigate for us as we continue onward.

Will needs more time to rest and decompress these days because of the added stress, and I think sometimes my Elmyra-ness can be a bit much, so I’ve really tried to respect his need for us to just sometimes watch mindless TV together.

Oh girls, I am so thankful for that guy. I most definitely married up.

It’s also a good time to tell you I think Will and I may be joining a different church.

Actually, should I make this its own post?

I have no idea.

Maybe we will table that for another discussion. Woo hoo two future posts! One on church, and one on changes.

More teasers.

Who likes teasers? No one!

I promise to keep them to a minimum from here on out.

So yeah, possibly a different church. I will ask for your prayers about this matter. When we left our Life Group earlier this year, it was because we felt a tug on our hearts to lead something of our own.

While we haven’t taken the plunge yet, during this time I felt another tug on my heart about where we attend church too. I just want so badly to get connected and start serving. I want it deep in the core of my heart. However, I felt like perhaps a change needed to be made. Anyway, more to come on that, the whys and what’s next.

I guess that’s my big life lately update! Thanks for listening to me ramble. I hope all is well with you.

Check in tomorrow for more Ezra!

50 things I did on my day off

Here’s an ever so thrilling look at my day off last Friday. smile

1. Got up early
2. Debated whether or not I wanted to run.
3. Decided I didn’t want to run
4. Ran anyway.
5. Cried.
6. Got home, made a shake. Girls, I make a mean shake.
7. Realized my license expires this month.
8. Thought about how much I really didn’t want to get a new license.
9. Decided I really didn’t have a choice.
10. Contemplated how ready I needed to get in order to get a picture taken.
11. Decided to get semi-ready.
12. Realized that was ridiculous. I’m getting a license picture! Decided to actually get ready.
13. Decided all license pictures look bad no matter how ready one gets, decided to go halfway.
14. Got my new license. The picture turned out fair. Surprisingly, I look way darker than I really am. I’ll take it.
15. Went to Zam Zams for lunch with P!
16. Missed Kuwait. That place always makes me nostalgic.
17. Mulled over the menu. Too many choices.
18. Settled on the veggie platter. They use “veggie platter” very loosely.
19. Enjoyed P’s company. Talked tons.
20. Ate almost my entire “veggie” platter. Gosh I love hummus and baba ghanoush (Told you they used the word veggie loosely).
21. Said goodbye and headed to the grocery store.
22. Tried to find a decent parking space
23. Gave up and parked in the back.
24. Got a cart.
25. It proceeded to lock up and squeal like nails on a chalkboard.
26. Got another cart. It didn’t squeak as bad… I’m destined to get every bad cart.
27. Contemplated breakfast foods.
28. Settled on oats, as usual. I’m so old boring. One day I’m going to get totally wild snd come home with some bold and exciting. Like Grapenuts. (HELP ME)
29. Finished up, paid, and even saved a couple dollars in coupons. Woo hoo!
30. Unloaded groceries, made a special dessert for Will.
31. Cried because it smelled so good.
32. “Evened out the frosting” by eating it.
33. Went and saw my mom and Layla.
34. Played barbies
35. Talked about all that was going on (with my mom mostly… A little with Layla too. smile )
36. Initiated some deep and meaningful artwork from the Olivia coloring book.
37. Got slightly annoyed that Layla kept taking all the colors I wanted and wouldn’t let me finish my masterpiece.
38. Realized how ridiculous I was being.
39. Decided to give myself a pass. I mean, how often do I get to color!?
40. Went home, spent some time reading Isaiah and in prayer.
41. Woo hoo! Will came home. Greeted Will.
42. Scolded the dogs for being way to loud and rambunctious for his arrival. But seriously- dog greetings are the best.
43. Drove to the Honda shop to pick up our beloved oldie Honda.
44. They couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Awesome.
45. Made a giant plate of roasted vegetables for dinner. Was in heaven. Will, not so much.
46. Served Will his dessert.
47. Evened out the piece a little by eating some off the edge. You know, to help make it look prettier.
48. Had a rice cake. Totally the same as Will’s dessert. Except not at all the same as Will’s dessert.
49. Watched a show on the couch with Will and the pups.
50. Washed my face, flossed, brushed my teeth, took my vitamins and called it a night. I needed my rest for the OU-TCU road trip Saturday!

Whew. So you now know all the exciting events of my most recent day off. smile What are you up to today?

Check in tomorrow for Ezra chapter four!

The Sneezy One & Look Ahead

This past weekend was dictated by allergies.

Is anyone else completely mouth breathing and nose blowing every twelve minutes?

Sheesh.

Halfway through the weekend I ran out of tissues and just started carrying around a roll of toilet paper.

Halfway through the weekend I ran out of tissues and just gave up altogether. #allergies

Classy.

Oh, and hi.

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday. Heh heh

Anyway, hopefully you had a healthful weekend full of fun fall activities.

OU was on a bye, so we got a small break before hitting it hard again. I’ll take it!

As we head into the weekend recap, I have to lead with how much my dogs hate by brother in law.

It’s so strange!

We first got the pups while home on vacation from Kuwait way back in 2006 (so long ago!).

the babies

My BIL was still a young vet student, and I remember him goofing around and giving our little teeny pups a big scare by barking menacingly.

They hated him from the start. He never had a chance.

What’s weird, is that he’s only seen them a small handful of times since the 2006 incident.

Let’s be real here.

While I love my Boz and Lucy, Maltese are not exactly the most intelligent breeds when stacked up against the others.

But they sure are cute!

Anyway, it’s hilarious that my goofy airhead dogs can still remember their hatred for him after all these years and such infrequent encounters.

Or maybe it’s that they know he’s a vet?

I have no idea.

Anyway, when he stayed with us last week, they went absolutely bananas.

Good times.

Anyway, the weekend was sneezy but restful. I was off Friday and started the day working my back, biceps, and shoulders.

I even did some cardio. Woo hoo! smile

I spent the entire morning cleaning house, and the afternoon hanging out with my mom and Layla.

The afternoon was much better than the morning!

Will got home earlier than expected, which made me happy!

Soon after, we set out to pick up our car from the shop. Will and I had to get some work done on the old ‘98 Honda, and it was ex-pen-sive.

The fun of being an adult. Ha!

Will went to the OSU game with his brother the night before and got home super late, so Friday night was low key and ended early!

Saturday morning started early.

No rest for the weary.

Will worked the morning, and I headed to the gym.

My legs are still paying for that session!

I didn’t do any new exercises but just completely reversed the order, and it made a difference!

I hobbled my tired legs to the treadmill and also managed to do 30 minutes of cardio, too. I’m committed to these fall goals!

The highlight was when me, my mom, and my dad were all in a line running on the treadmills. Family affair at the gym y’all!

Then if was on to tea and coffee with P and Layla! It was a beautiful morning and perfect for sitting outside.

I even spent half an hour reaping the benefits of my dad’s hard labor. He went crawling in the attic to retrieve some of the ancient Barbie stuff they kept from our childhood.

Oh my goodness. Fun times. I meant to take a picture but totally forgot.

I’m pretty sure P and I were even more excited than Layla. Haha

After that, it was boring errands and such.

Soooo, with Will’s recent schedule, he’s had a Saturday afternoon ritual of coming home from work and taking a nap.

Will, bless his heart, likes me to rest with him.

And guys, I try, I really do.

I just can’t.

I can’t take a nap smack dab in the middle of a Saturday afternoon with things to do or enjoy.

Nonetheless I still try, but I’m terrible. I’m like a 5 year old boy who just loaded himself up on an entire box of fruit snacks.

I try to quietly multitask on my phone, but inevitably I accidentally push the home button too hard and inquiry Siri, which wakes Will.

Or I’ll try and quietly sneak out, which wakes Will.

Or I’ll even do nothing and really try hard to go to sleep. I’ll doze for about 15 minutes, and then wake up, and try to position myself somehow in a way that will allow me to fall asleep again.

Which inevitably wakes Will.

You get the picture.

We are getting off track, and taking forever to recap a rather quiet weekend.

In fact, let’s get fast forward a bit and take a look at what’s coming up this week!

-Tuesday Things
-Why I love working out part two
-The art of female face shaving (not kidding!)
-Ezra chapter three

I have lots of fun things planned this week, and I hope you’ll stop by.

Now off to blow my nose A-GAIN. Here’s to a day full of blessings, mouth breathing and all. smile

Thursday Things, 23 Sept 14

Confession- I have not seen Frozen.

I know.

Can we still be friends?

Will’s brother is staying with us Thursday night.

Usually visitors call for fanfare and creation of the fake house, but as you may recall, I’m going a little more lax on all that craziness.

Sure I want the house to look nice, but I’m not going to kill myself to dust baseboards tomorrow night for our guest.

It’s about balance.

And hospitality.

And offering dessert never hurt either. smile

I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed when I look at my upcoming calendar.

I don’t know why, but it seems to be hitting me hard. I stopped being a worrier a long time ago, yet recently it’s begun to creep up inside my heart and I hate that!

I mentioned big changes soon, and part of it is related to that, as well as other things. Praying for peace and the ability to gracefully plow through

I wash my hands about 20 times a day

This seems a little excessive, yes?

Essentially it’s like getting up every hour from whatever I’m doing and taking two minutes to wash up.

I obviously don’t methodically time all this crazy hand washing, but between constantly picking up after & handling dogs, handling food, picking up after & handling dogs, bathroom breaks, picking up after & handling dogs…

Well you get the idea.

Anyway, between all that and weightlifting I’ve given up on soft, beautiful hands.

I have this slight suspicion people are alarmed by my man hands and firm grip the first time they meet me. Ha!

Still no spider
Still freaking out.

Fantasy Football is going well

Mostly.

The team Will and I made together is kind of average so far. We had AD in our league so we had to pick up another running back when he was suspended, and the players we have that usually put up big points haven’t been as stellar.

We’re 2-1, and I’ll take it. Let’s hope the rest of the season is a winner.

Layla is killing me with her adorableness

Nothing new, but now we are buddies. Now she can say my name and ask me to come with her. She can take my hand and she can tell me she’s happy to see me.

I can have a terrible day, and her small, pure gestures of love can make me forget everything. Be still my heart.

Please tell me you still have things on last weekends to-do list that didn’t get done.

Even with the away game, and seemingly more time available, Will and I still managed to avoid a handful of things we’ve been putting off and need to get done.

Procrastination at its finest.

Sooo last week I bought French bread for a recipe we didn’t end up making.

And then proceeded to eat the entire loaf myself throughout various times the rest of the week.

I bought another loaf this week thinking I’d be able to make the recipe for which the bread would be a njce accompaniment.

But yeah… Probably not going to happen with our schedule this week.

I’m in carb coma over here guys. Help!

Anything you care to share?

Tuesday Things, 9 Sept 14

-I’m pretty pumped about this Saturday’s game.

We have a home and home scheduled with Tennessee, and they’ll be here this week to take on the Sooners. Should be a fun one!

Speaking of, I think know technology has made Will’s fantasy football football obsession worse.

Way worse.

When we first got together you’d have to go to your desktop computer and put in your lineup.

Then you’d watch the games broadcasted on the main networks.

And you’d only check your scores every so often. After all, you’d have to be near your desktop computer.

Now not only does he have Sunday Ticket and every app and mobile device known to man, but he can watch on his phone.

I’m dead.

I was lucky enough to get to sample Skintimate’s Mandarin Burst shave gel.
Confession- when it comes to shaving, I am usually a soap and water gal.

Don’t judge, I already know.

Sample

Anyway, I gotta say I loved getting to try this stuff out. It smells amazing and yes, as we already know, Skintimate is far better than plain old soap and water. Lesson learned.

Oh my goodness sake.

Have you seen this video of the tarantula dog that’s gone viral?

I don’t know if it’s the fact that I have dogs or that I hate spiders, but oh my goodness guys I was cackling when I watched this video. Tears were streaming down my face, and I couldn’t catch my breath.

It’s not that funny, but I just couldn’t stop laughing.

Okay guys, do you know about the Walmart Savings Catcher?

Do it.

That’s pretty much the only place I buy groceries and I’ve used it three times and already have almost $3 accumulated on a gift card.

I realize that’s peanuts, but considering I did absolutely nothing for it and shop there all the time, I figure I might as well make some money if they’re going to do the work. Win.

Speaking of gift cards, we had a gift card to the Cheesecake Factory that was set to expire last night so we placed a to-go order to use it up.

Seriously- why is that place so great?

Or so terrible?

I suppose they’re one in the same.

I got one if their lightened up salads and skipped getting dessert.

I was so proud of myself.

Only, when I went to pick it up they took a little longer than anticipated. I was super nice about it and chatted the staff up and when I got to leave they threw in an extra piece for being so nice.

I was so proud I had the willpower not to order cheesecake. Aaaand then they took a long time and I was super nice about it and they threw in an extra piece for my kindness. Dead.

Dead.

I ate the gut bombs and am going to let Will eat my non vegan cheesecake...though I might eat the chocolatey bits?

So dead.

Since we’re talking food, the Oklahoma State Fair starts this weekend.

One of the newly debuted foods is fried gummy bears.

I’m not sure I’m down? I mean, fried anything is good I suppose. However, given the choice, if I’m going to cheat on my macros, just shut up and give me a fried Snickers. smile

Check in tomorrow to talk about why we need to change up our routine

Thursday Things, 21 August 2014

***
Alright sweets, we are nearly weekend bound. Let’s finish strong!

Let’s talk about how this week is most certainly not my best in terms of eating healthy.

Not.at.all.

It involved this 5,000 calorie cupcake.

I'm dead.

Plus Will had two softball games Monday, one at 6:30 and one at 9:30, also known as past my bedtime.

What do you do when you have a two hour gap between games?

You eat French fries and fried pickles.

Real life.

And then I felt like a big heavy greasy bomb was in my stomach and I kind of wanted to slip into carb coma and pass out until morning.

So I did.

It was raining for Will’s second game so I stayed in the truck and fell asleep.

Supportive wife.

I also got to spent some quality time talking to a dear friend this week.

Oh girls, I am so refreshed by our conversation! We are not extremely close, however we have a common bond and love for God that has allowed us to strengthen, encourage, and pray for one another.

Winning.

I’m kind of pumped about the weekend.

It involves a trip to a nearby fair with a little two year old girl. I’ve never been more excited to sweat my butt off in 100 degree heat and pet smelly blue ribbon goats in my life.

Here she is last year. Where does the time go!?

The fair!

Speaking of time passing, Lucy turned 8 this week and Boz turns 8 this weekend.

I fully acknowledge they’re not real kids, but I seriously can’t believe how quickly our time has gone with these old pups.

In hindsight, I feel a little guilty about getting them during our 45 day vacation home from Kuwait back in 2006 (but there was really no other time unless we waited until we moved home).

What were we thinking!? Staying with my in-laws with unruly puppies biting, tinkling, and flopping about!?

the babies

I also cringe about how we tormented our neighbors with their yapping during the nearly 2 years they lived with us in Kuwait.

Bad neighbors. Bad dog parents.

It’s probably a good thing we didn’t have real kids back then. We were totally clueless.

Soooo I’m 100% positive I’m not preggo, but guys, I’m having some seriously strange and insatiable cravings lately.

Like some weird stuff. Last night for dinner Will had leftovers and I had a giant bowl of broccoli and then proceeded to squeeze tablespoon upon tablespoon of mustard over it.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!?

Don’t google that stuff either or it will pretty much make you worry about everything.

Okay, that’s it for now friends. Check in tomorrow!
