Because I'm Terrible at Scrapbooks
Holiday Shmalidays

Hey it’s Monday!

It’s Memorial Day and I’m not posting.

Actually technically I am posting, but I’m sure you get my point.

I hope you had a lovely weekend full of good things, I sure have.

Check in this week for

-a weekend recap
-Will’s upper body workout (yes, my Will!)
-Thursday Things and more!

I close saying a prayer of peace over those who have lost brave soldiers in service to our country.

As a military brat, I have the utmost respect for our servicemen and women. Today we remember and honor those we’ve lost and pray protection over for those who serve today.

Check in tomorrow sweets!

The death of me.
I opened a Pinterest account last week.

I’d been fighting it for years, but at the (persistent) nudging of my sister, I opened an account.

I’m still fighting it (I only have a couple pins- sent by my sister), but I’m sure I’ll be a pinning pro before long.

If you are a pinning pro, feel free to add me. I’m found at TheBloveLife.

Saturday’s Treat Meal

Will and I got Freddy’s to go Saturday night before the bad weather hit.

I ate their veggie burger sans “Freddy’s sauce” and thought it was delicious!

I got fries too.

I pretty sure I was stress eating (bad weather= burger & fries), nonetheless it was pretty darn good.

The “Dad Bod”

Let’s discuss the latest discussion to sweep the Internet-:

The Dad Bod

I know there are tons of opinions out there, and I have to know- what do you think?

This sermon on loving the Church

It kind of ties into what I was saying Friday. It’s number three- Unity

The Fog

I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ll say it again. I’m a huge perfume hoarder.

It’s a problem, really.

I don’t always like to use my “nice” (read: expensive) stuff for everyday at work. I’d rather save it for dates with Will.

We both needed new “everyday” type perfume/cologne, so I did some quick looking and turns out Walgreens is currently having a half price sale on their knockoff brands!

The idea of two for the price of one was too good to pass up, so we spent about 15 minutes in their fragrance aisle spraying and testing a variety of fragrances. Some good, some not so good.

We both completely fogged the joint and had headaches from all the various smell combining. Haha

We each bought two, and spent less than $25. Real life. I find mine smells just as good, but the staying power is weaker. Other than that, I consider the outing a success!

The itsy bitsy huge, numerous spiders

We’ve gotten about two feet of rain over the last 10 days.

Real life.

Apparently large quantities of rain flush spiders from their dwellings and often indoors for shelter.

That means they’re freaking EVERYWHERE.

Guys. I’m not kidding. In the span of five minutes last Sunday we found three in various locations.

The bad news is, we have about a million chances for rain this week.

The good news is, I’m having Will barricade us in with lots of bug spray.

The super long one
Today I started a five day vacation! Woo hoo! Memorial Day weekend fell on my usual Friday off, so I added Thursday to the mix and created a lovely recipe for relaxation!

The days quickly filled with various events and outings, but I’m thankful for the time off and hope to enjoy myself, and even clean out our closet.

Party Time, Excellent!

Guys. I had the weirdest dream ever a couple nights ago.

I was in a vehicle with a lady I barely know from work (seriously- hardly know this woman), and we were chatting it up like we had been longtime pals.

Will strolled up and stood outside the window and talked about how happy he was we were talking (I can’t remember what it was about).

He started talking all crazy. Saying stuff like “Party time! Ex-cell-ent!” In a total Cali voice.

Not kidding.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, we kept talking and at some point in the conversation he says something weird and then says some odd word I’d never heard him say before and made a weird gesture.

What the heck!?

I remember being totally confused in the dream.

Thankfully, my alarm clock woke me so I didn’t have to endure the uncharacteristic oddities of my husband.

As I tried to dissect what just occurred, it hit me.

I was dreaming my husband was part of Wayne’s World and mimicking their words and actions.

Weirdest part about it?

Im pretty sure I only saw the movie once… Over twenty years ago.

Psychedelic dreams.

Should I get a pregnancy test?

In an instant
On Memorial Day 2008, Will and I flew into Oklahoma City to make our lives here after three years of life in Kuwait.

It feels just like yesterday, and sometimes it makes my heart a little sad.

That’s it for today, friends. Check in tomorrow. For now, I’m going to enjoy my day off!

The One with Mother’s Day and a Garage Sale & Look Ahead

No filter needed. His name is great and greatly to be praised.

My favorite kids

A loaded weekend! Garage sale (which was a complete bust because of bad weather hmmm), lots of fun family time and meals together, more garage sale action Saturday, house stuff, workouts, meal prep, relaxation, early Mother’s Day celebration, and church.

It was a wonderful weekend full of my most favorite people!

I hope yours was too. What did you do!?

I hope you’ll check in this week. I’ve got a lower body workout, Thursday things planned, and more!

Thursday Things, 16 April 15

My Ipsy came in Monday.

It was like a birthday present to myself.

Do you get tired of me telling you how great all the stuff inside is?

I get it.

I’m sorry.

Not gonna lie, though, this one was yet another winner.

I’m just applied the perfume rollerball that was in the bag and am currently inhaling my wrist. Fantastic.

We’ll discuss next Thursday.

I’ve made roasted asparagus with every.single.meal I’ve prepared at home

For the last two weeks.

Real life.

Easter brunch goodness

I’ve said it a million times, I make things I like for days and weeks on end and then forget about them for like the next two years.

Please don’t let me forget about my asparagus.

The Garage Sale

Yes, the garage sale, as if it were an epic sale of all sales.

I think my mom is going to have a garage sale, and Will and I are going to hook on and make it a joint one.

I think I’m completely underestimating the level of headache that’s going to come from trying to identify, sort, tag, and sell all our stuff.

We should have started waaaay earlier.

Plus Will and I have completely different opinions on keep versus sell.

I’ve already told him we’re going to make it a like a game. We each get veto power on a certain amount of items. We also get a certain amount of items that are off the table in terms of keeping or selling.

Perhaps that will help keep us motivated and on track.

Probably not.

Workweek Hustle

As in the workweek hustle Fitbit challenge.

Guys, some of these people get fierce with this challenge.

Purposely booking the far away conference rooms so we can’t use them and are stuck using the ones closer to our own desks.

Others faking injury so we think they’re out of the game only to be completely shocked when they sync their steps and see they’ve been logging marathon like numbers.

Like, I kind of think some see how far behind they are and literally walk in place in the middle of their living room until the very second the challenge ends just to make sure they’re declared the winner.

(Mostly) for real.

It makes for awkward water cooler talk…

Sometimes you’re the windshield

Sometimes you’re the bug.

I was the bug.

My birthday didn’t start out so wonderfully.

An asteroid came careening out of he sky and forcefully struck my windshield Tuesday morning.

The result? A giant crack. With several other peripheral knicks and cracks (seriously- what hit me!?).  Apparently Will thinks they’re too deep to fix with a quick call to Safe Lite.

That means we’ll have to gift ourselves a new windshield! Woo hoo! What I’ve always wanted.

It definitely did not start my day off on the right foot.

The breakup

Here goes (yet another) a crazy confession:

I totally love the Air One morning radio show hosts Eric and Mandy.

They have this beautiful friendly chemistry and humor and are so relatable.

So when Eric left the show a few months ago, I was sad! They get me to work and I always enjoy their banter with each passing mile.

Eric can’t leave! What’s Eric without Eric AND Mandy!?

In case you’re wondering, he’s just, Eric. Ha!

Anyway, this week Mandy announced her departure from the morning slot and that she is moving into the mid morning show instead.

The show I don’t listen to because I’m already at work.

Not gonna lie, I’m sad and am going to miss that goofy bird on my commute to work.

I’m sure the new guys will be ok, but they’re no Eric and Mandy. smile

What’s up, cupcake?
After the windshield incident and a crazy day at work, I was more than ready to be home and do absolutely nothing.

Except, that wasn’t the plan! I was home long enough to change clothes and head to the church for an event.

We rode with my parents and they were so sweet and surprised me with six beautiful giant assorted cupcakes.

What's up cupcake?

My favorite in OKC.

Thankfully we got home a little early and I treated myself to one two.

What's up cupcake?

Hey, it doesn’t count on your birthday!

That’s it for today. Anything you care to share?

32: There’s Room for Cupcakes

I’m 32 today, which is weird considering I barely remember turning 31.

Like years past (and mostly because I lack creativity today), I thought I’d share some deep and meaningful life lessons from the 30s. Ha!

1. Flossing is way more important than we thought.

No seriously.

I mean, I know out dentists literally crammed this truth down our throats all.our.lives. but the truth is, they’re actually right.

Before I hit 30 I had always been a noncommittal flosser. One or two times a week. Let’s not get crazy here!

Now I’m religious.

In fact, if we’re ever out together and you have a giant piece of broccoli in your teeth (hey, it happens) not only will I gently tell you, but I’ve got you covered on the floss. It’ll be in my purse.

Real friendship, y’all.

Since we’re talking hygienic stuff…

2. Shaving my face changed my life.

Not kidding.

If you’re not doing it, start.

3. I’m completely comfortable having no idea who Meghan Trainor or Iggy Azalea are, or what the Kardashians are up to.

I’m old. It’s ok. I’d rather do a better job keeping up with people I know in real life instead.

3. The world will not crumble if I don’t workout six days a week.

My affections used to be completely focused on health and fitness stuff.

Six days a week, rigid eating, no treats.

Don’t get me wrong, that stuff is still important to me, but I’ve found life is much more than push-ups and protein powder.

There’s room for cupcakes.

4. I’m completely fine admitting Will is my better half.

Sure, we joke about it, and I tell him I’m the better half, but seriously- Will is the best part of Will and Brittny.

No jokes, all serious.

I pray for Will daily, but multiple times throughout the week I’ll also just praise God for Will and wonder why He blessed a blonde ditzy mess like me with such a solid rock like Will.

5. I’m never going to be ok when it’s above 85 degrees.

I’ve tried. Oh I’ve tried.

I turn into a complete sweaty mess if I have to be outside for extended periods when it’s hot.

I hate it, but it happens.

I wish I could attend your outdoor wedding at noon this July, but I can’t.

I’m doing this for you.

The focus should be on the bride. Not the weird 30- something chick that just passed out in a puddle of sweat in front of all your guests.

6.  I’m still not entirely sure what I want to do with my life.

I know, I know! I should have my life together and a little more figured out by now.

The truth is, though, I just don’t. My five year plan is a little hazy these days.

(And when did a five year plan become a thing? I have a suspicion Billy Graham, George Washington, or Mother Theresa didn’t have a mapped out five year plan or “inspiration boards,” or a “word for the year” and they turned out ok in my book)

7. I eat fish, and I’m going to keep eating fish.

In fact, I need to update my “about me” section.

I shared my post about struggling with my commitment to full blown veganism about a year ago.

While I still follow a 90% vegetarian diet, I eat fish a couple times of week these days.

8. I’ve realized how much sweeter life is in the passenger seat.

Believe me, I’ve driven my own life for a very long season, and it was miserable.

Wrong turns, flat tires, and lots of car trouble.

As I get older I find such peace in letting go and trusting Jesus. I never want to take the wheel again.

9. I love being at home.

I hate to admit this, but over the years I think I’ve become a bit more of an introvert.

Not with people I know, but more so with social media.

I don’t take a bazillion trips to amazing places or eat the most Instagram-able foods.

I honestly like being at home with Will and the dogs, or with my family or a few close friends.

You may call me a curmudgeon, but I just call myself a little unadventurous most days. smile

10. I want to be braver.

I’ve gotten better in my old age, but I’m still quite timid! I want 32 to be a year of stepping out and taking risks.

So yeah. Lots of deep thoughts today (haha). I want to be present and enjoy 32. I want to step away from the phone and live in the moment. I want to eat pizza and not freak out, or let my house get a little dusty every now and then (um, you’re going to help me remember I just said that).

Here’s to actually living.

Here’s to 32.

It was a busy weekend! Seeing puppies downtown, a visit from the in-laws for an early birthday celebration, more RV hunting for their perfect getaway space, church with my parents, and lots of junky eating. I was also able to meet up with my longtime blogging friend, Marisa! Oh friends, it was such a blessing to visit with her and I had such a great morning with her and her kiddos. I also had a wonderful Resurrection Sunday brunch with my family yesterday. It was such a great weekend, packed with so many blessings and good memories.

I’m on cloud nine, but also sad to see the week start if I’m honest.

Thankfully. I have some good things lined up. Check in this week for more food things (the last one!), WIOW spring playlist, Thursday Things and more!

Good Friday: The Call of the Cross

It’s Good Friday.

My mind naturally goes to the cross today.

I’ve been thinking about it all week.

His love, His mercy.

His sacrifice.

Needing Jesus.

Waiting on Him.

Contemplating the depth of this week, and hoping He might reveal Himself to me more in the midst of it.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the life of Jesus, and the life of His followers.

Jesus was never ambiguous about his desires for us.

I love that.

I love that I know the desires of His heart for his followers.

To love others.

To forgive.

To be holy as he is holy.

To love him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

To take up our cross and follow him.

To imitate him.

To give everything in our pursuit of Christ, even if it’s hard.

Even if it means huge lifestyle changes.

Even if it means death.

Yet, I struggle to piece together what exactly it looks like.

The truth is, it looks different for everyone.

Some are called to be moms and raise their children up in the Lord.

Others are called as missionaries to the front lines of Iraq, ministering to those displaced by war.

Some are preachers,

Some are nurses,

Some sit quietly behind a desk all day pushing paper and teach Bible study on Sunday.

We are His hands and feet to the world.

Regardless of what it looks like, the important part, what we absolutely cannot forget, is that we are called .

It’s not just the full time church ministers called to service, it’s you and me, too.

We are called to be the light of the world.

We are called to love others as Jesus did and to show them the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

The methods may change, but the call does not.

When I reflect on what Jesus did on Good Friday, I think about the cost.

I’m not sure how often we take a quiet moment to truly absorb the events that unfolded and the horrific shame and physical agony he endured.

All because of His love.

All because He is holy and hates sin. So much that He was willing to die to atone for ours.

The least, the very least we can do, is offer our lives as living sacrifices to bring Him glory.

We are all called.

That’s not the question.

The question is- what are we going to do about it?

WIOW: A Hipity-Hopity Easter Workout!

Why should the Easter bunny have all the fun and get all the exercise?

Today we’re following suit with a festive at-home workout that’s faster than a jack rabbit. Not to mention, it will leave our legs burning.

It’s all about hoping today.

Lots and lots of hopping.

It just seemed like the right thing to post for the WIOW before Easter. πŸ‡

Check in tomorrow!

Weekend things

Early birthday present

This weekend didn’t exactly go as planned, which was disappointing, however it was still a wonderful weekend. I continue to see God’s hands over Will and I, and am so thankful for the blessings in our lives.

While a few plans were supposed to go differently, the weekend was lovely in its own unanticipated right. Long talks, a trip to the park, an unexpected trip to Norman, time with my family, London Bridges with Layla, an early birthday present, church, and rest.

We are blessed.

Check in this week for:

Off to tackle a busy Monday and a grueling week ahead. Thanks for checking in!

Thursday Things, 12 Feb 15

The Aerogarden is doing fantastically.

Mint is a late bloomer

Except the blasted mint.

To say it’s a late bloomer would be an understatement.

It’s pretty much the herb I wanted most, too.

Figures as much.

Last weekend I thought I might just up and die right there at the gym for all the patrons to see.

I completed a good resistance workout, and then decided to quickly hit the elliptical.

I usually like to gradually increase the crossramp and really work to keep my heart rate up.

About 20 minutes in, I was dripping in sweat, and I was working double time.

Turns out I was increasing the resistance instead of the crossramp. Ha

Speaking of workouts, last weekend Will and I went to the park to enjoy the warmer weather.

Long talks at the park (and a secret selfie I took of the mister 😊)

We sat and talked and watched the kids playing.

Will looked over at me and asked, “Remember when we were kids and running was actually something we did for fun?”

Totally killed me.

I remember the days when I was a kid and would run just because it was something fun.

While I have my moments, I can pretty much say I no longer consider running “something fun to do.”

Soo what are you doing for Valentine’s Day?

Do you love it? Hate it? Do tell.

Will and I aren’t huge celebrators, but we do acknowledge the day.

We don’t get crazy with gifts, either. Although, my sneaky husband did decide to buy me the rest of our bedding accessories for the new bedspread we bought last year. It wasn’t cheap and I was very touched by his thoughtfulness!

He also surprised me with the first season of The Americans. Anyone watch this?

My parents love it, and since it’s set in the 80s, I kind of figured I would too.

So yeah.

We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, but apparently Will forgot.

As for going out on Valentine’s Day, don’t enjoy crowds or waiting forever at places in our old age, so we will cozy up on the couch Saturday night and let you guys have a night on the town without old fogeys cramping your style. smile

It only seemed right that today’s TBT pic be Valentine’s Day related.

Brittny-Valentines day OU cake-2005

This was our first married Valentine’s Day in 2005.

Look at that baby face!

I bought Will a cute Valentine cake as well as some red OU oakleys.

Which, surprisingly, he didn’t like because they fit weird (according to him).

Yes, I still remember.

And yes, it’s really me in that picture.

Remember that one time we all got crazy and dyed our hair RED!?!

In this week’s “Food Lately” post, I failed to mention the amount of peanut butter and jelly toast I’ve been eating.

It’s out of control, y’all.

That’s it for now.  I sure hope you’ll check in tomorrow.

Anything you care to share?
