The Sooner Loss & Look Ahead

Monday Monday, here we go again!

Well friends, my Sooners lost this weekend.

We lost to TCU in an ugly game played tied or from behind the entire time.

Will and I actually made our way down to Dallas Saturday to cheer on the Sooners!

Originally, we were going to take off Friday and make a little trip out of it. However, with Will’s work and vacation schedule we ended up going down early Saturday morning instead.

Road tripping to the TCU# game
This was our first road trip in the new car, so that was nice too!

We got into Dallas around lunchtime, grabbed a bite, and made our way to parking.

Neither of us had been to TCU, so we got there a little early and walked around the stadium.

Here we are, all smiles. Obviously before the game. smile

WB before the game

We watched the whole game and left bummed. They’re better than that and sure didn’t play to the magnitude they’re capable.

Getting out of campus was crazy! Thankfully, once we got out of that congestion and onto the highway it wasn’t too bad.

We got on the road for a bit and didn’t eat dinner until after 9! I was a tad hangry. smile

We got in well after 11 and crashed!

We slept through our alarm yesterday, which meant church online.

The rest of yesterday was spent doing the usual- food prep for the week, laundry, football, and the like.

All in all, we had a good weekend and got to spend lots of time together, so that was nice.

Now we’re starting another week with lots on the docket.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up this week:

-Thursday Things
-On running
-50 things I did on my day off
-Ezra chapter four

So that’s what’s been going on with our family the last couple days. Hopefully you had a nice weekend and are ready to tackle the week.

Check in tomorrow!

Thursday Things, 23 Sept 14

Confession- I have not seen Frozen.

I know.

Can we still be friends?

Will’s brother is staying with us Thursday night.

Usually visitors call for fanfare and creation of the fake house, but as you may recall, I’m going a little more lax on all that craziness.

Sure I want the house to look nice, but I’m not going to kill myself to dust baseboards tomorrow night for our guest.

It’s about balance.

And hospitality.

And offering dessert never hurt either. smile

I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed when I look at my upcoming calendar.

I don’t know why, but it seems to be hitting me hard. I stopped being a worrier a long time ago, yet recently it’s begun to creep up inside my heart and I hate that!

I mentioned big changes soon, and part of it is related to that, as well as other things. Praying for peace and the ability to gracefully plow through

I wash my hands about 20 times a day

This seems a little excessive, yes?

Essentially it’s like getting up every hour from whatever I’m doing and taking two minutes to wash up.

I obviously don’t methodically time all this crazy hand washing, but between constantly picking up after & handling dogs, handling food, picking up after & handling dogs, bathroom breaks, picking up after & handling dogs…

Well you get the idea.

Anyway, between all that and weightlifting I’ve given up on soft, beautiful hands.

I have this slight suspicion people are alarmed by my man hands and firm grip the first time they meet me. Ha!

Still no spider
Still freaking out.

Fantasy Football is going well

Mostly.

The team Will and I made together is kind of average so far. We had AD in our league so we had to pick up another running back when he was suspended, and the players we have that usually put up big points haven’t been as stellar.

We’re 2-1, and I’ll take it. Let’s hope the rest of the season is a winner.

Layla is killing me with her adorableness

Nothing new, but now we are buddies. Now she can say my name and ask me to come with her. She can take my hand and she can tell me she’s happy to see me.

I can have a terrible day, and her small, pure gestures of love can make me forget everything. Be still my heart.

Please tell me you still have things on last weekends to-do list that didn’t get done.

Even with the away game, and seemingly more time available, Will and I still managed to avoid a handful of things we’ve been putting off and need to get done.

Procrastination at its finest.

Sooo last week I bought French bread for a recipe we didn’t end up making.

And then proceeded to eat the entire loaf myself throughout various times the rest of the week.

I bought another loaf this week thinking I’d be able to make the recipe for which the bread would be a njce accompaniment.

But yeah… Probably not going to happen with our schedule this week.

I’m in carb coma over here guys. Help!

Anything you care to share?

Tuesday Things, 16 Sept 14

Last Friday I got all Laura Ingalls Wilder and made my own homemade fabric softener.

Only, unlike my Little House on the Prairie kindred spirit, I didn’t wash my clothes over a wash board,

outside,

in 100 degree heat.

But still.

Laura Ingalls over here, y’all.

Here’s a quick and easy recipe that makes 12 cups of fabric softener, and it only cost me $3.50 (!!!).

Real life.

My dad kills the drums, guys.

After two years of watching others play in a local drum-off, he finally entered the contest and I’m so excited for him! I can’t wait to watch his set, and am hoping for a win!

The Sooners are on the road this week for their first big road test.

I’m looking forward to an evening on the couch eating healthy football fare and cheering from home.

I love home games, but an away game every now and then is a treat.

I can tell autumn is just around the corner.

Not because of the cooler temps or changing leaves, but because I’m craving my pumpkin protein bars and limited time coffees.

Happening.

Aaaand I got the first scratches on the car last week.

True story.

I was sick, and Will was sicker.

If you’re wondering, yes, I spent some time in the doghouse.

Sooo, in a complete subject change, I missed the Miss America pageant Sunday but can’t stop hearing about Miss New York’s talent act.

I fully understand the hubbub about it, but I’m not gonna lie, finding out she won with that suddenly made me want to dust off my old kazoo and give it a go.

Anything’s possible.

That’s it for today! Check in tomorrow for fall football fitness goals. smile

The Birthday, Tennessee Defeat & Look Ahead

Thanks for checking in! Today is all about last weekend, and what’s up ahead this week.

Let’s get moving!

I was off Friday, so in addition to working out and grocery shopping, I did lots of laundry and even made my own homemade fabric softener. Woo hoo!

Homemade fabric softener

My dad’s birthday was Friday, so we got to spend some time with my family.

Dad's birthday!

(and also had birthday cake smile )

Dad's birthday!

It was a homemade ice cream cake and so very good.

I know I say it all the time, but I’m thankful they live so close!

Saturday morning I hit the gym and worked legs. I also ran jogged trotted intervals on the treadmill.

I want to tell you I ran, but yeah, what I did could not be called running. smile

Saturday was all about game day!

Ah girls I can’t tell you how much I enjoy big games at OU. There’s so much energy everywhere you turn!

The weather was beautiful, which was an extra bonus. We striped the stadium (except the students, who all wore red) and came loud. The game was super fun, and the win was better.

OU-Tennessee striped stadium

Will started feeling badly during the game, so we left early.

Which means he really didn’t feel well! He hates leaving big games.

We still got home late, and slept in yesterday morning. Will was still under the weather so we did church online and he rested all day.

I managed to get my food prep done for the day, workout (including the aforementioned cardio), and a few other things around the house.

I also managed to watch some football with Will.

Another Monday starts, and we are kicking off another long week, but I have some fun things on the horizon.

Here’s a look at what’s ahead this week:

-Tuesday things (and a fabric softener recipe!)
-Fall workout goals
-Things I’m Loving Thursday
-Ezra chapter one

It’s gearing up to be a busy week, but I’m looking forward to fun things here. Off and away we go, Monday!

Check in tomorrow!

Tuesday Things, 9 Sept 14

-I’m pretty pumped about this Saturday’s game.

We have a home and home scheduled with Tennessee, and they’ll be here this week to take on the Sooners. Should be a fun one!

Speaking of, I think know technology has made Will’s fantasy football football obsession worse.

Way worse.

When we first got together you’d have to go to your desktop computer and put in your lineup.

Then you’d watch the games broadcasted on the main networks.

And you’d only check your scores every so often. After all, you’d have to be near your desktop computer.

Now not only does he have Sunday Ticket and every app and mobile device known to man, but he can watch on his phone.

I’m dead.

I was lucky enough to get to sample Skintimate’s Mandarin Burst shave gel.
Confession- when it comes to shaving, I am usually a soap and water gal.

Don’t judge, I already know.

Sample

Anyway, I gotta say I loved getting to try this stuff out. It smells amazing and yes, as we already know, Skintimate is far better than plain old soap and water. Lesson learned.

Oh my goodness sake.

Have you seen this video of the tarantula dog that’s gone viral?

I don’t know if it’s the fact that I have dogs or that I hate spiders, but oh my goodness guys I was cackling when I watched this video. Tears were streaming down my face, and I couldn’t catch my breath.

It’s not that funny, but I just couldn’t stop laughing.

Okay guys, do you know about the Walmart Savings Catcher?

Do it.

That’s pretty much the only place I buy groceries and I’ve used it three times and already have almost $3 accumulated on a gift card.

I realize that’s peanuts, but considering I did absolutely nothing for it and shop there all the time, I figure I might as well make some money if they’re going to do the work. Win.

Speaking of gift cards, we had a gift card to the Cheesecake Factory that was set to expire last night so we placed a to-go order to use it up.

Seriously- why is that place so great?

Or so terrible?

I suppose they’re one in the same.

I got one if their lightened up salads and skipped getting dessert.

I was so proud of myself.

Only, when I went to pick it up they took a little longer than anticipated. I was super nice about it and chatted the staff up and when I got to leave they threw in an extra piece for being so nice.

I was so proud I had the willpower not to order cheesecake. Aaaand then they took a long time and I was super nice about it and they threw in an extra piece for my kindness. Dead.

Dead.

I ate the gut bombs and am going to let Will eat my non vegan cheesecake...though I might eat the chocolatey bits?

So dead.

Since we’re talking food, the Oklahoma State Fair starts this weekend.

One of the newly debuted foods is fried gummy bears.

I’m not sure I’m down? I mean, fried anything is good I suppose. However, given the choice, if I’m going to cheat on my macros, just shut up and give me a fried Snickers. smile

Check in tomorrow to talk about why we need to change up our routine

Tuesday Things, 2 Sept 14

For the last two weeks, anytime I’ve been running late and had to blow dry my hair, I’ve simultaneously done my makeup.

Is this a thing?

Am I late to the game?

If it is, it’s probably a good thing I waited to start until I was in my 30s.  I think perhaps my coordination has improved over the years.

Although, I’m probably just telling myself that…

No softball last night.

Will was visibly bummed.

The good news is that next Monday kicks off Monday night football.

The bad news is that next Monday kicks off Monday night football.

Football widowhood commences.

My sister and I have a terrible habit of planning super exciting things and never following through.

We’ve been talking about a sleepover for months and months but have never actually done it. It’s tentatively on the books for Saturday night. I bought the pancake mix and she’s got the ice cream. Fingers crossed.

I ate my weight in vegetables yesterday.
We got everything on the grill, and a few minutes into cooking, the propane went out.

Labor Day

Sooo, we ended up finishing everything in the oven. Half grilled, half baked. I feel there’s a joke somewhere in there?

I was supposed to go to the OU-Tulsa game with Will Saturday, but it’s a 10:00 kickoff, our seats were in full sunlight, and it’s going to be 97.

I don’t need to link to the hundreds of times I’ve mentioned how I pour from my head and.cant.stop.ever.

Thankfully Will’s dad took one for the team and is going in my place.

Everyone’s happy.

Back in March Will and I ordered a love seat, followed by its matching couch soon after.

When the love seat arrived this spring, I swore it looked darker than what we saw in the store.

Untitled

I checked online and confirmed there was only one color made in that style. So while I still swore it was darker, I figured the couch would bought had to be the same.

Nope.

The couch came in Sunday and was the original color we saw and wanted in the store.

The new (super duper long) couch

I’m not sure if you can tell in the picture, but the love seat is way darker.

I have no idea what happened, and it’s crazy the place still supposedly only makes one color in the style. Ughhhh, guys.

I realize I sound like a brat, but when you buy new furniture it should be what you want.

So yeah. Kind of a couch problem with no real remedy because there are no exchanges or refunds.

So if you ever come over? Please don’t say anything about the mismatched couches.

Any randomness you care to share?

Tuesday Things, 26 Aug 2014

The fall lineup is around the corner.

I’d like to tell you having little to watch over the summer motivated us to minimize loading up our DVR with shows this fall, but sadly I do not think that’s the case.

I’ve decided to forgo a couple shows, but for the most part, yeah… Fall lineup.

I successfully avoided making the chocolate peanut butter whoopie pies I mentioned last week.

However, since it’s a holiday weekend, and OU kicks off the season, I think there’s a celebratory obligation there, right?

Football. Oh Fantasy Football
Speaking of football, after ten years of marriage, you’d think I would be completely accustomed to football widowhood.

I suppose I am to some degree, yet every year is unique in its own right. The draft is tricky in that sense.

There’s lots of “research” and “concentration” required.

I’m using quotes to be funny, but any hardcore fantasy football player knows it’s actually true.

Since we’re still talking sports...

Softball ended last night. I can’t be sure, but I think a tear streamed down Will’s left eye as we left the field.

Or maybe it was sweat?

Regardless, he’s super bummed it is over, and I’m super thankful there’s no fall league.

My closet needs a major overhaul.

It’s been over a year since I combed through, and it’s long overdue.

I needed to do to it last weekend when Will was gone, but didn’t. Perhaps I’ll get a jump on it this weekend.

I think this is my way of saying I’m ready for fall?

Sorry all you summer lovers. Don’t worry, I’m not pulling our Christmas decor like all the stores seem to be (Seriously marketing people?! It’s AUGUST).

And let’s not kid ourselves, we know how bad I am about Christmas decorating anyway!

Everyday for the last week I’ve packed peanut butter for my afternoon rice cake snack.

Everyday I’ve eaten the rice cakes plain, followed by the peanut butter with a spoon an hour or two later. I’m starting to wonder at what point I’ll just start bringing the jar up here?

Alright, dears, that’s it for today. What’s new with you?

The One with the Cat Rescue & Look Ahead

Okay, not a real cat rescue, but it felt Iike it!

As I’m sure all of you smart and responsible ladies know, you’re supposed to clean under your fridge once a year.

Yeah, let’s just say it’s been forever awhile for the B-Love family.

This weekend, we noticed our freezer wasn’t keeping things as cold as normal.

Before dropping $100 on a service call plus whatever other associated costs, one of the first recommended actions is to clean below your fridge.

Duh.

So at 9:00 Saturday night Will and I embarked on the great cat rescue.

I call it a cat rescue because, girls, there were no dust bunnies under there.

There were full-blown lions!

I am a little crazy about a clean house, so yeah- was kind of freaking out about the hidden animal sanctuary right under my nose.

Sheesh.

We decided not to conquer the lion’s den that night, and instead reserved the fun for yesterday.

Want to know how to push me over the edge?

Use a leaf blower inside the house I spent cleaning on Friday to clean the dust from the back of the fridge.

I was not a happy camper, and Will knew it.

I quickly de-dusted some of the surfaces, but by the time we finished yesterday it was nearly 5 and I was spent.

In fact, most of yesterday was spent doing painfully responsible things. Like getting new tires, putting a new doorbell on the house, ironing, and prepping for the week ahead. Boo!

Oh, and as an aside, what is it about doorbells that make dogs go berserk?

I suppose I didn’t even really give you a weekend recap so much as confessing my lack of under-the-fridge-cleaning and frustration for my husband’s indoor leaf blowing action.

The rest of the weekend was good and fairly uneventful. We did our usual weekend things and also tried to rest a little. I even got to spend some quality time with mom and Layla.

Oh, and on Saturday night Will also proposed. On one knee and everything.

That’s right, girls, it’s official. I’m currently the co-owner of one of Will’s fantasy football leagues.

How did I get so lucky!? wink

So part of Saturday night was also spent doing research and discussing strategy. Exciting things, my friends.

Here I am researching...sort of.

Fantasy footballing

This past weekend was also the second to last weekend before the craziness of football season!

I know I say this all the time, but seriously, how is it already football season again!?

So let’s take a look at what’s coming up this week:

-Food lately
-Evening TV busters
-Thursday Things
-Are we good enough?

Alright my dears, that’s it for now. Here’s to a good Monday full of fresh starts and clean refrigerators.

Thursday Things, 14 August 2014

I love my new car.

Checking out the new ride

I feel so incredibly blessed to get to drive it.

I’m sorry to drone on and on about the car, but guys, up until last week I was driving a 1998 model.

A 1998 model that came off the lot on 1997.

That means it is actually 17 years old. Please let me have this one today.

Football starts in two weeks. How is this possible!?
No really- how is it already here?

I had big plans if getting some huge things crossed off my to do list before the season started.

Yeah… Some got done, some didn’t. Looks like it will have to wait until January now.

Like many of you, I’m saddened by the death if Robin Williams.

Robin Williams

He was a smiling force of energy in so very movies I enjoyed over the years. P and I shared a few texts this week reminiscing of sleepovers spent watching his movies, and it warmed my heart.

Oh friends, if you are in the depths of despair, don’t give up.

Don’t give up, and don’t believe the lie. You are valuable and life is worth living.

You have a Savior who loves you and wants a relationship with you, and people around you who care.

In much lighter news, my tan is an absolute wreck this week.

I know I say I’m resigned to being okay with the terribleness that sometimes results, but yeah… This is bad.

Bad tan

How did we miss half my leg!?

We got a storm shelter this week.

I know what you might be thinking- “How do you live in Oklahoma and not already have one, crazy woman!?”

I know.

You’d be surprised to know most of us here don’t have them! Many new constructions these days are installing them, so that’s good. However lots and lots don’t, and I’m thankful we do now!

Sooo I think I love The Andy Griffith Show

Yep. I’m a total granny and bore now, but it’s true.

Remember how we started watching out box set (yes- we own the box sets) a few weeks ago because it’s one of Will’s favorite shows and I didn’t really get why he liked it so much?

I totally get it. I love the way they spoke to each other, and Andy’s charm, and the silly predicaments they got into. It’s kind of a nice break from the stuff we typically see these days.

Do it.

My Ipsy should be here this week
I’ve been trying not to look ahead and see what came in the bags.

Here’s to hoping I don’t snoop.

Alright my dears, that’s it today. Any things you care to share?

The One With the Super Bowl & Look Ahead

Much like this morning’s Super Bowl reel, we’re going to keep today’s post to just the highlights.

Ready?

Break!

Friday night grocery shopping.

And Lucy snuggles.

Sometimes a pup belongs in your jacket

Will went to work I squeezed in a Saturday morning workout- back, biceps, & abs.

Afterward I scoured the house. Much needed.

I also managed some food prep.

Prep

Will got home later than anticipated (boo) and was pretty wiped out.

The original plan was to go to the Winter Jam concert later that night, but just about everyone bailed. They don’t sell tickets in advance, so we were also going to have to stand outside for a few hours before the door opened to ensure we could get in- and it was frigid!

Sooo, we decided to skip. Sort of disappointing, but we managed to have a fun night.

We ended up getting the UFC fights, and I enjoyed a cheat meal. Veggie pizza, extra easy on the cheese.

Cheat meal, easy cheese

I also made some sugar scrubs! I cannot tell you how great they’ve been during this dry winter weather.

Sugar scrub

Finished product

We woke up to snow yesterday morning!

Untitled

The roads and bridges were a bit of a mess in the morning, so I decided to skip the gym and do the Insanity Max Interval Circuit at home. We also did church online.

Will also used part of the day to get some of his paintball gear ready to sell. Here’s me taking a picture of him taking a picture. haha

Untitled

Things cleared out by before noon, thankfully, and as people got out and about the roads got better.

One of the guys in our Life Group opened up his house for the Super Bowl, so we all ended up going over there to watch.

Will and I were rooting for the Broncos, since we’re a big Peyton Manning fan.

Not a lot of healthy options at all, and since I had pizza (cough: and a Reece’s cup) the night before, I snacked before and brought some food along. I did get a little sampler plate of some of the goodies I thought I couldn’t live without.

We got home late, and the day started early (don’t they always?).

For that reason, let’s just cut to the chase and take a look at this week’s lineup!

-How we can both make a small difference in a woman’s life this week

-What to eat before a workout

-So what’s this Nature Box thing about?

-Why I miss the Goldbergs

Check in tomorrow for fun! And happy Monday! smile
