Because I'm Terrible at Scrapbooks
OU Obsession

i’m on such a streak-

That I had to freaking post tonight- just so it would not be broken.

I am trying to bring focus to my blog in the coming days, and have already started a little. However nights like these?

When I just “have” to post, even if it’s about nothing?

These posts are good reminders that I need to back the heck off my focus and allow myself a little leeway. Especially on the weekends.

We had a good day today. The tailgate wasn’t as busy as usual, so that was nice. I loaded up on tons of veggies and fruit at the Sooner Cooking Team booth which makes me happy. I’m still going strong on my sugar streak, but we will talk more about that Monday.

It was ridiculously windy at the game today. The temperature would have been wonderful today, but the wind was horrible and made it feel colder (and more miserable) than it really was.

I’m such a pansy and felt really cold halfway in.Thankfully my purse is an abyss and I had not one- but two packages of hot hands from the Notre Dame game. Bliss.

In fact, I still have them in my hoodie pockets right now and they feel so snuggly and wonderful.

Will likes to replicate Alaska-like conditions in our house during the winter…

you know where I’m going with this.

I need to add those things to tomorrow’s Walmart list.

Alright, going to call it a night. Just glad I kept my streak going. More (hopefully focused) content to come…

A Saturday Full of No Pictures

I wish I could post about all the wild fun Will and I had today, being sure to capture the entire day with heaps of pictures.

Only I did not capture anything in pictures.

Because there was very little wild fun.

Okay I’m lying.

There was zero wild fun.

Will is still feeling poorly, and I too feel a little under the weather, so today was a restful day.

I set my alarm for 5:00 in hopes of getting in a workout before going to the grocery store, but my body completely revolted when the bells started chiming.

I ended up not getting up until 7:45, and it felt so good to sleep in. Will actually accompanied me to the grocery store, so that was nice.

Blonde move of the week?

Purchasing these things.

Or Breakfast Gold, as I will refer to them this week.

I bought six.

They are huge.

But I didn’t figure they would bleed me dry.

As they crossed the scanner, my eyes got big.

$10 in peaches.

Who does that!?

Will already gripes about our produce bill (he would be much happier if I made Frito chili pie and fried Twinkies everyday), so he loved seeing those cross the scanner.

Note to self- do freaking math in my head before buying crap.

After the store, I killed my shoulders at the gym. I LOVE shoulder days. I plan to share some great shoulder tips soon. I also walked on a crazy incline for 30 minutes today.

I hoped to do an Insanity workout when I got home, but I was still feeling sort of poorly, so I opted to rest instead.

We watched our Sooners win, so that was a relief.

Afterwards, I did a few things around the house and actually took a nap with Will. He got all parental on me and told me I “needed” a nap to help rest and recuperate for the week ahead. I hate taking naps on the weekend. I feel like they are a waste of time when I have a list of things to accomplish, but I didn’t fight it today, which further confirms I probably needed it.

I did a few more things around the house, and tried a new healthy recipe I plan to share with you all next week!

Now Will and I are sitting on the couch, taking it easy, and catching up on all our DVR-ed shows. I also think we are going to watch church online tonight since we didn’t go.

Hopefully tomorrow is equally as restful.

Hope you enjoyed your day too! More to come.

Eh so our boys lost and it was quite a heart breaker.

In fact, I don’t even want to talk about it.

Is that okay?

I will, however, share some pictures of the day- all taken when we thought we were going to kick butt, hence the smiles.

Okay, let’s move on!

My extended weekend is already over.

I never used to hate Sunday nights, but over the last couple of months I have found myself dreading them and feeling sadness about the week ahead!

Unfortunately, I think that makes me among the norm.

Today has been good. We got home so late last night that we slept in, which means we will end up having to watch church online to stay up with our series.

Will has been sick this weekend, so I have been playing nurse in hopes to get him functional for tomorrow.

I love nurturing people, but sadly my interpretation of nurture and Will’s interpretation are a little different.

I want to make Will healthy smoothies with all sorts of antioxidants and feel good food.

Will wants comfort food.

I want to make him tea and honey,

Will wants diet coke.

I think you see the conflict here.

I already promised today would be a splurge meal for me, so I followed through on the cheese fries.

You know, because nothing nurses a husband back to health like seasoned fries smothered in cheese, bacon, jalepenos, and ranch dressing.

I made myself a cleaner, vegan option that I really enjoyed. I cut a sweet potato into chunks and baked for about an hour and then topped with scallions, salsa, and the Daiya cheese I brought Friday.

This was my first try of vegan shredded cheese, and I was really pleased with the taste and melt! It was a little pricey, but I’m glad to know I have an enjoyable option anytime I want to have cheese with my meal instead of just going without.

I ended up going to the gym this afternoon instead of this morning, which I generally don’t like to do.

I am best in the morning, free of competing demands and without much food in my stomach.

Today, however I ended up getting caught up in a few things around the house and did not go until well after lunch.

I ended up making my lunch for the week and doing a few loads of laundry (which I have yet to put away...). I also ironed my clothes for the week. I hate doing it on Sundays, but come Wednesday, when I want to sleep longer, I always thank myself.

Then I headed to the gym and worked my shoulders, which I love doing.

Shoulders are a great muscle group you can easily work at home, so I would be glad to share some ideas of things to do around the house.

After shoulder suicide, I walked on treadmill, incline between 11.0 and 13.0 for 30 minutes. I was pretty sweaty afterward!

Now I am home and avoiding laundry.

Tomorrow is Monday Goal Day! I hope you have surprised yourself.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

It’s Football Time in Oklahoma!

I’m pretty sure if I were ever going to paint my face and be all crazy at a football game this season ever, it would be today.

Um, and don’t worry. I’m not painting my face. That is a little over the top for me.

But, for the record, if I were to ever do it, it would be for this game.

Can I tell you how totally PUMPED I am for today’s OU-Notre Dame game?

So pumped.

Maybe even jazzed.

I know we agreed never to use that word, but guys- I really am jazzed. I’m sorry. I just can’t deny it.

This game is huge for my Sooners.

I think the last time I was this excited for a home game was back in the day when Texas Tech came to our house when we were the underdog and we beat them.

That game was hands down the most fun I’ve ever had at an OU game.

I have a feeling that same intensity and excitement will be here tonight too.

I can’t wait!

We are following our usual routine, but it will definitely be full of more energy (and people). The Sooner tailgate is always a zoo, but I am positive it will be even busier. Should be fun though!

Oh,l and last week I even managed to keep everything vegan even at the tailgate which was pretty surprising. I just filled up on tons of raw veggies and fruit from the vendors that actually had some. I also brought almonds to keep be going during the game because I knew I would be hungry at some point.

Same plan today.

More to come.

Game Day Recap

Hello all!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and your Monday was bearable (hey, sometimes that’s all you can ask for, right?).

My weekend was wonderful, and much needed. It was rough coming in today, even with just taking one day off.

Plus last night ended with the below which left me feeling really gross and sick to my stomach.

Yes- that is a M&M wrapper AND a peanut butter Snickers wrapper.

Perhaps I should back up a little.

Saturday was so fun. Victories are always fun, and then when it’s a total butt-kicking? All the more fun. Here are a few pics from the day:

Corny Dog Time!
Corny dog time

Will was thrilled I took this one:

Pre Game

Unhook Em!
Unhook Em

I stuck to my plan all day Saturday with the exception of half an order of curly fries at the fair to spend the last of our tickets. Will indulged in not one, but two corny dogs and also got some fried cheese and overpriced beer.  We did not stick around to try anything “weird,” though I did see a sign for chicken fried bacon?

What does that even mean?

Anyway, I did not really count the fries as my weekend “splurge.”

After the game we went to On The Border for dinner. They totally changed their menu, which bummed me out. Apparently the one we went to was a test store or something like that, and they were trying out their new menu there, and I was not very impressed. They took off the vegetable fajitas, though I’m sure they would have been fine with making them if I had asked. Instead I opted to go with another vegan option.

I got their vegetable tacos (I forget the exact name). It was their sautéed veggies in two corn tortillas with black beans. It was fine, but next time I will definitely ask for the vegetable fajitas.

After dinner we went back to the hotel and Will fell asleep and I went down to the gym and worked my shoulders.

So I’m pretty sure my weights back home are slightly lighter than the weights I used at the hotel gym. I know you think I am crazy, but hear me out.

My gym is going downhill (which is a whole other story). For two weeks this past July, the height of summer, the AC was broken in the gym and the dumb bells started to sort of melt and stick to the
rack. Take a look at the 85 pounders:

See? Not crazy. In fact, the 85s actually melted and goop pooled underneath one of them.

I did not really think the integrity of some of the lighter weight had been compromised

Can we please just stop for a second and laugh at the above sentence? Who even talks like that?

Anyway, I did not really think the integrity of some of the lighter weight had been compromised (haha).

Apparently it had. I am able to shoulder press 35 pounds without much trouble. In fact, I was so excited (YES EXCITED! THRILLED! STOKED! JAZZED! Wait. Not jazzed. I need to remove that from my vocabulary. It sounds so…old) because Saturday night was the night I was going to move up to 40 pound dumb bell presses.

Only I thought I was going to die.

The 35 pounders were way tougher than they usually were, too! So that pretty much confirmed reconfirmed my gym sucks and as soon as my membership comes up for renewal, in a freaking YEAR, I am going to switch.

After my workout I showered and hit the hay. Before 10. Wild and crazy over here.

Yesterday we headed out around 9, along with all the other Oklahomans on their way home too. There was lots of moving traffic the whole way back.

I ate more than I would have liked throughout the day, but all healthy food so I cut myself a little slack. I got home and unpacked and did a few loads of laundry- and even put all but one and a half of the loads away. Success! Haha

I made a quick trip to the store and grabbed a whopping 7 things for the entire week. That alone is a huge feat for me. I was very tempted to buy my normal stuff, but I figured this week would be a good one to “clean out the coffers” and eat up some of the stuff we need to use.

After that I took a nice walk with P and enjoyed the beautiful day.

And then came home to my cheat(s) of the weekend- which consisted of the previously discussed chocolate extravaganza.

Not really sure what prompted the second splurge, considering the first was plenty, but hey, it happened.

So this week it is Cleaning The Coffers October Week!

Here’s what’s on the menu:

-Green Monster protein shakes for breakfast (I picked up spinach and almond milk yesterday, and had frozen fruit and protein already on hand)

-The last of my apples w/1/3 cup oats for my mid-morning snack

-Tofu w/various frozen veggies I’ve had in the back of my freezer for a few days weeks now

-Carrots and smashed avocado for afternoon snack

-Almonds for another afternoon snack

And then dinner… tonight Will had McDonald’s to play Monopoly one last time.

Yeah, I don’t get it either.

And I had broccoli with a homemade “cheese” sauce using nutritional yeast and almond milk as well as some marinated tofu.

We’ve had some frozen burgers Will has needed to use for a while now, so tomorrow we are going to grill those as well as my veggie burgers, so that will last us through Wednesday. Then Thursday? Hopefully by then my coffers will be empty, and at that point I have no idea what we will do because I am not going to go to the store until Saturday morning, darn it! No deviations from the weekly schedule!

So there you have it. We are all caught up on the weekend! More to come tomorrow!

Hello From the Road

One of bummers about quick trips is driving home knowing what lies ahead. Laundry. Groceries. Work. Laundry.

For a house of two we sure generate a lot. I can’t even imagine having laundry for kiddos too!

Our trip was a lot of fun, and the OU butt kicking made it all the more enjoyable.

More to come, hopefully later today once we get home and settled and I start laundry load number one. I just had to check in and say hello!

Game Day Morning Chat

Good morning friends!!

It is game day and fair day!!

We have a loooong train ride to the fair so I hope to post again to pass the time, but just incase I don’t, I know you are reeling to know all about my exciting morning, yes? Haha

Yesterday went as planned which always makes me happy. I ate my premade lunch, snacked on what I brought and ended the night with a delicious dinner at Ruth’s Chris. I ended up getting the vegetable plate and had their broiled tomatoes, asparagus, and steamed spinach. They were all so tasty! I was pleased with my selections.

I love when I stick to my plan. What was NOT planned (yet somehow inevitable when I am responsible for directions) was the argument down to Dallas. Largely due to the fact that I got us lost. Multiple times. What?

Thankfully we made it, largely (read: totally) impart to Will. We are happily married but I’m positive we would kill each other on the Amazing Race.

Thank God marriage success isn’t measured by road trips.

Or is it? wink

No workout this morning, which was planned. I pre made my green monsters for Saturday and Sunday so I had one of those and will have a couple teeny apples before we get to the fair. I also brought a a couple more tiny apples, a package of carrots, almonds, and 8 mini homemade protein oatmeal bites. My plan if at all possible is not to eat at the fair unless there’s something I really want to enjoy, like their super delicious non vegan cinnamon rolls. I would prefer, though, to hold out for something else later. So hopefully my snacks will keep me going until we are done.

In the past I would typically maul old grannies and yell at cute curly haired babies in order to push my way though the giant corny dog line (yep, at the Texas state fair they are not just corn dogs, they are corn-y dogs). However, this year the thought of eating a corny dog downright freaks me out a little.

I will take lots of pictures and hopefully we will be smiling in them because of a victory!

More to come soon!!

Things I’m Excited About This Week

Saturday’s OU-Kansas State Game
I’m so pumped for this game! Firstly, I forfeited the last game ticket to my dad, so this will be my first game of the season. Second, I love game day with Will. It’s our thing and makes me very happy because I know it makes him happy. Plus last year we got access to this super wonderful pregame bash with food galore and it makes the day that much more fun. Thirdly, I’m pretty sure the weather is going to be wonderful!  Oh and finally, and most importantly, we’re freaking playing Kansas State. I’m not going to lie, I’m nervous about this game, but I’m also pumped about it too.! Heck it’s only Wednesday and I’m already getting all crazy happy. Yep, it’s that time of the year.

Green Monsters
I opted to add a green monster to my meal plan every day this week.Nothing too fancy (and no, I’m not doing a cleanse), just a way to get some more nutrients into my diet all at once. I didn’t go with any of the “weird” concoctions, just soy milk, banana, lemon juice, flax, and spinach. Hey!? Why do I feel like you just murmured to yourself that my green monster IS in fact weird? Eh, that’s okay. Cheers!

Kaskade Radio on Pandora
I love Kaskade radio all weeks, but as this has been a ridiculous week at work, it has kept me more upbeat. I just put in my earphones and plug away.

Embarking on a New Workout Program
I’m pumped!! I started a new workout program Tuesday and welcome the change and challenge something new brings. It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut, doing the same things at the gym, so I’m looking forward to shocking my system. I’ve followed my current split pretty much all year, and this new program calls for an entirely different one than I’ve ever done. I’m sort of nervous about it because I know that what I do works, but I’m going to give it a go and give it my all.

The fittest girl at the gym complimented me this week about how “yoked” and built I’ve gotten lately. Now- aside from the fact that I had to urban dictionary “yoked,” when I found out what it meant, it made me feel so so good the rest of the day and revalidated my fitness goals.

My diploma arrived this week! I now officially know everything (ha). I told Will that too but he was just as skeptical as you are.

Suave Keratin Dry Shampoo
Pretty much my favorite drugstore dry shampoo. I love it because it smells so soft and never gets too white in your hair. I always feel tempted to use it even on days when my hair is freshly washed.  feel like I’m a bit obsessed.

Speaking of, I’ve got a hair appointment tomorrow! My roots need color and my ends need trimmed badly. Plus my brows have consumed my face. I can’t wait to be fresh tomorrow!

Hope you have a few small things to keep you positive during this week too!

This is Long. Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You.

It’s update time!

So now that I’m back in school, something had to drop in my life to ensure that I wouldn’t become a homicidal maniac irrational. I chose to let my house go.

It’s not a pit, but it’s definitely seen better days. I like to think of it as somewhere in between TLC Hoarders: Buried Alive, and Danny Tanner’s crib on Full House. In sum, my house probably looks like a lot of other irrational Americans who on a whim woke up one day and were like, “I know! I want to willingly endure two years of mental pain during the worst.economic.conditions.ever. so that I’m more competitive for positions that companies can’t afford to hire right now! AND I want to do it while working full time!” Brilliant!

Anyway- before I went off on the above tangent, I had a point I was getting to.

My point is that I usually use my breaks in school to do major deep cleaning of our house. I like to spread it out over the course of a week, to where I don’t spend an entire Saturday scouring every nook and cranny. Only, it’s Thursday night and I haven’t so much as picked up a sponge.

Oh- and I ate eight cake batter pancakes and three tortillas slathered in two tablespoons of peanut butter for dinner tonight.

It’s like my whole being is out of kilter and is in revolt for doing anything responsible this week.

Yet at the same time that grandma within wants to scratch my eyes out for not picking up the freaking Swiffer duster and going at the ceiling fans.

Have you seen your ceiling fans!?

Unless you’re Danny Tanner I bet they’re bad.

Before I started school, mine were clean. In fact, I could have hosted a dinner party on each of the blades (Ha. “Hi! Please bring your own ladder- and healthy side dish!").

Not so much any more.

Basically I’m trying to tell you that nothing is happening cleaning wise tonight and I feel incredibly guilty about it and am trying to pretend that I don’t care at all.

But you all CLEARLY see through me. Who spends eight minutes talking about not caring? I obviously do.

Okay- so let’s move on, yes?

I don’t think there’s a need to update you on school. I’m pretty sure you’re clear on how I feel about that.

As for other things…

Will started a new job in March. He had been working for his dad, driving back and forth to his hometown. Not only was it exhausting for both of us, but it was ridiculous in gas money. So, we decided it would be most economical for him to do what he’s doing up here instead of down there, which meant he had to leave his dad’s business. It was sad for them, but definitely nice for us overall. And our gas bill. So that’s been a transition the last couple of months, but a very good one.

The Sooner season is fast approaching, which always makes him happy, as you know. However he also has the Thunder to occupy his time. The real question is- will we have NFL to watch this fall? My bet is yes. If I have to beg the owners and players myself, I will. Will might go off the deep end if they don’t play. Okay, I’m kidding, but I couldn’t talk about my husband without addressing sports!

We also celebrated seven years of marriage in March! Seven. Geez. I’ll elaborate more on that in a separate cover. Not today!

Much like Will and sports are me and working out. I realize I just told you of the carbicide that I just inflicted on myself, so it’s probably hard for you to take me seriously now. I knew I should have left the pancake part out! Eh- you all know me well enough to know that there are times in which I will most definitely have a tub of frosting in my house.

I will, say, however I haven’t been eating as much crap this year. You may have noticed that stock in Betty Crocker has taken a nose dive. I got so fed up of working out for nothing. I would spend hours in the gym trying to get “muscles” when all I was really doing was barely accomodating my giant caloric appetite. It’s hard to have muscles when they’re hiding under layers of cake batter pancakes!

Anyway, I’ve cut out a lot of the crap (which Will loves… HA) and have started to see better results. In fact, I feel like I need to show you guys that I no longer walk around with a box of cereal in my left arm at all times. Well, not as often anyway. I took this tonight, after the lovely plain white flour binge fest. I might as well have eaten two cups of sugar. Hopefully you can tell that I have teeny shoulder and bicep muscles trying to peek out (hello!), and not a mound of vanilla frosting sitting on my arm. Ugh. Vanilla frosting. Don’t remind me.

It’s right about -----> here <------ where I would now post my workout.

But I just ate eight pancakes.

I'm in no condition to offer workout advice.

I’m just glad I don’t pee eight times a night… yet
So I also turned 28 about a month ago. Yeah, I realize some of you are already there and past- but it’s still a milestone. I was convinced that 27 was still “mid to late twenties” (but really? who am I kidding? Everyone knows I was in my late 20s. I was just in denial for a year. Why do I feel like I’m going to be 29 FOREVER?).

Sweet Will is not a flower guy, mainly because I’m a cheap miser, however he had pretty pink roses sent to my work which totally brightened my day.

I intended on posting deep thoughts somewhere around there but for some reason I spent hours posting pictures of my OCD outlet picture taking instead.

Clearly I have a little more maturing to do in my old age.

Trying to Avoid Sleeping in the Car
Will turned 30 last summer and for his very belated birthday we’re making a trip to Florida for the OU-Florida State game. I know you’re shocked.

We also decided it would be nice to take a (Very, Very, Very) cheap trip somewhere around Christmas this year. Will suggested going to Minneapolis. If you’ve read for a while you know that every year in Kuwait we’d come back for vacation in Oklahoma and first stop over in Minneapolis. It sort of became our little spot and a place close to our hearts. Will thought it would be fun for us to do that again this year.

I think he’s sweet.

But at the same time, we haven’t gone on a trip that wasn’t OU related in a while and I thought it might be nice to do something we haven’t done yet. I suggested Vegas, but Will said we can’t go to Vegas at Christmas. He didn’t come out and say it but I feel like he thinks it’s sacrelige or something. I suggested a few more places and he hasn’t been too enthused just yet. We don’t want to spend very much at all. In fact, I think we’re considering this as more of a mini getaway instead of a full blown vacation. I mean, I don’t want us to sleep in the rental car, but we also don’t want to give away the farm.

Or Lucy.

So, I’m back to the drawing board. Somewhere in between scrubbing our shower and losing four pounds this week I’m going to look into all inclusives. Surely he’ll go for that, right?

Perhaps the biggest update
Oh- and by the way- my parents bought the house one door down.

Do you love how I calmly throw that in?

It’s like I need my own reality television show.

Because then I would have a reason to clean my house.

Oh- and they’d probably capture some interesting moments for sure.

My dad is still in Kuwait working full time, but my mom is currently staying here while they sort of figure out what they’re going to do (and all roads eventually lead right down the street. Actually. Not even really down the street. That would mean that you could ride your bike there or maybe even take a quick drive. Not walk outside and be in their driveway.).

Oh, and let’s not even get into the fact that I STILL HAVEN’T BLOODY GIVEN HER A GRANDCHILD.

I mean- it’s not like I wake up in the middle of the night and see her hovering over my side of the bed with a sonogram machine in hand “just to make sure” or anything, but still… between her and Jenny, and our seven years of childless marriage- yeah- I can’t really expect it not to come up.

I say all this for blogging material (hi mom!), but honestly it’s been nice. I spent three years away from my family, after being close in proximity for 25 years. I don’t think any of us anticipated that after three years we would be this close in proximity though, right? Because everyone close to me knows that it’s free game on here (haha). So hopefully my family can be good sports and know that I actually love how my sweet mom cuts up canteloupe for me and offers to mend my clothes, and make dinner, and go to church with us. It’s nice.

Let’s Call it a Night
I’m sure there’s more, but I just did a quick preview and wow- the odds of anyone reading this is pretty low. Even my dear old mom probably tuckered out at those freaking awesomely fierce arms (oh and I’m kidding by the way. They’re not fierce. I hope one day though!). My point is that I probably need to pull back the throttle on the lengthy post. Unfortunately I think it’s a little too late!

I have a few more days until my summer class begins. I wonder if I can commit to posting once a week during my class? That’s not bad, right? Then I have a whole month off so I for see more consistent posting- and house cleaning- then.

That’s all for now, but as always, more to come…

Mainly Because I Haven’t Posted Since Monday and Feel Bad For My Blog.

All is well in the world of Norman. Bradford is back. No seriously- I think I saw a grown man cry yesterday when it was announced.

Will is going to freak when he finds out I decided to crank out a post at 10:30. We’re supposed to leave in five minutes. Eh- timeliness is overrated. Plus, it’s my duty to drive my husband crazy, right?

So last night we had a bowling party at work. Oh guys I am the world’s worst bowler. Perhaps it’s honestly because I don’t really care, or maybe I truly do suck. Whatever the case- I suck. Nonetheless I still had a really good time. In fact- I was the worst bowler in the office- which typically isn’t a crown you would want to wear- except for the fact that the loser got the cutest pink bowling pin with black polka dots. I love it. We’ll forget about the fact that it says “pin head” on it. That can easily be turned to face the wall, yes?

Today is game day! We’re headed to Ted’s and then the game. I think today is the first day in a week in which the sun will be out all day! I love cool sunny fall days. They’re the best.

So remind me to tell you guys about my embarrassing moment this week. Why is it that when I get embarrassed instead of keeping it to myself I tell the whole world? Who knows.

Anyway, Will is beckoning. I suppose I won’t keep him waiting.

This time.

Have a great day!

More to come…
