The One Where I Got “Snowed In” & A Look Ahead

Hi friends! Do you see that!?

It’s snow!

I realize some of you may see it all winter, but it’s a rarity here and I relish taking tons and tons of pictures when it finally surprises us here in Oklahoma.

We typically get ice and not a lot of snow.

Is snow.

Love it.

I ended up leaving work early Thursday afternoon and set up shop at the house because of it. I woke up to snow Friday morning and news of closings everywhere because of the dangerous roads.

That meant I got a work from home day!

It was so so SO nice to be able to work from the house. I see why so many companies allow their employees to flex their time between the office and home.Such a morale booster.

I nested the entire weekend. It was ridiculous!

I made a pie, cookies, soup, jalepeno poppers, queso, and tamale pies.

Pretty crowned cookies. Snow storm nesting.

Oh, and can I please back up a moment to tell you about the Wednesday that led me to an enjoy this snowy weekend and all that cooking?

So anytime there’s a threat for icy or snowy conditions here, the entire state flips out…me included.

Since I was in Colorado the weekend before for Thanksgiving, I hadn’t made it to the store for about 10 days. Our cupboards were getting pretty bare and I knew if the weather it and we were stuck inside for a few days we’d be in trouble.

Soooo, I braved Walmart Wednesday night alongside heaps of crazy suburban women fighting for the last loaf of bread and bag of Oreos.

Hey, I don’t judge. I’m pretty sure Oreos would be great when you’re snowed in.

Only I wouldn’t know since that wench ahead of me violently ripped them out of my hands!

Okay, only kidding, but seriously. The place was a ZOO.

Carts everywhere. Bread nowhere.

Yep, gonna snow a couple inches in Oklahoma

And I spent a fortune. Between a bare fridge and planning to be stuck inside for a few days, no doubt Walmart had even more stellar sales than usual.

Anyway, I was prepared. Bring on the snow!

And the snow did not disappoint.

And I thanked the good Lord by staying inside my house all weekend.

No really- all weekend.

Okay wait, I did get out.

To go a couple doors down to see my family.

To do very important things.

Snow day: when important stuff happens

Such as touching up Layla’s masterpieces.

Moving along to Saturday.

Poor Will had to work both Friday and Saturday. I was pretty annoyed about the whole thing, I mean- hello! It’s bad out there. He works in oil and gas, and if it freaking dropped three feet of snow, they would probably still make everyone come in.

Will only worked part of the morning, so that gave me some time to get stuff done.

Since it was still icy and snowy, I kept my workout at home.

I did the Insanity Max Interval Circuit. It was a good workout, but I missed really hitting my legs like I normally do on Saturday. It has now been two weeks since I’ve worked legs in the gym! I’m sort of going through withdrawals.

Afterward, I cleaned the house. It felt so good! It had been a few weeks between Thanksgiving and the last OU game. I felt very accomplished. Haha

Then Will was home just in time for Bedlam!

Oh man, please tell me some of you guys caught the Bedlam game!?

It was crazy!!

OSU was favored to win my double digits, so I was already psyching myself up for a loss.

But seriously guys- please tell me you at least know how it finished? It was close the whole entire game, and then in the last two minutes, OU took it all the way down to score a touchdown in the last minute, and not only that, but when OSU took over possession we intercepted their pass and took it down for another one!

Will? Totally flipped out.

I had a hard time watching most of the second half.

I have no idea why.

Focused on channeling the sooners

When we won we were both standing in that position and totally jumped up and down like complete fanatics.

And I suppose we are.

Anyway, excellent game!

The rest of Saturday was full of watching lots of good football as well as food prep.

It’s amazing now nice it is to “have” to stay indoors sometimes. I got so much accomplished.

Yesterday was much of the same. The main roads were fine, but hey, the residential ones weren’t.

I fit in another workout, and the rest of the day was spent on the couch getting posts ready for the week, watching football with Will, and doing a little more food prep for the week ahead.

In fact, here’s a look at what we will be having for dinner this week:

-Tamale Pies (recipe this week!)

-Vegan Potato Soup (recipe soon!)

-BLTs for Will, Broiled Eggplant for Me

For workouts this week, I plan on getting back on track at the gym since Thanksgiving and the weather kept me away.

-Monday off

-Tuesday at home plyo

-Wednesday- Back, biceps, shoulders (plus abs & calves)

-Thursday- off

-Friday at home cardio/plyo

-Saturday- Leg/cardio circuit (plus abs & calves)

-Sunday- Chest, triceps, shoulders (plus abs)

Here’s a look at what I’ll be posting about this week too!

- Tamale Pies for cold winter days

Back to normal today. It’s the first time I’ve worn makeup since Wednesday!

Ready to tackle this week. I doubt next weekend will be as incredibly relaxing as this weekend (read: I’ve put off my Christmas shopping, as usual), but I’m just ready to get there.

Oh and the tree! The tree! The masses have spoken (haha). It’s going up! Stay tuned.

Alright, your turn. What did you do this weekend?

One with Sleet & A Look Ahead

Happy Thanksgiving week!

It’s Monday, yet it feels like Wednesday since it’s a short week. I can’t dread the day like I usually do, right?

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. This past weekend was our first frigid one of the season, and I did very little.

It was a lazy weekend in, complete with cold weather and snow. Pretty great if you ask me!

It started to get icy Friday afternoon, so Friday night was pretty low key, with the exception of a quick trip to Walmart to grocery shop… alongside everyone else in the great state of Oklahoma.

Not only was it payday weekend and the Friday before Thanksgiving, but the weather promised to get worse this weekend.

Which means everyone in Oklahoma completely freaks out and buys enough to feed an army for two weeks.

Fun times.

I’m not a Black Friday shopper, but I imagine my trip to Walmart Friday night was eerily similar.

Will and I stayed in and caught up on some of our shows.

And even stayed up past 10:00!

It got crazy round here, ya’ll.

Saturday was not much different.

I actually slept in (you know, since I stayed up so late haha) and hit the gym later than usual.

I missed my chest and triceps day and wanted to incorporate them into my leg day I figured it wouldn’t be all that of an effective workout day, but turns out it was a great one!

Just making a few changes to my program by throwing in triceps and chest during my cardio and legs made a big difference and torched a ton of calories since I was constantly moving. Definitely a fun workout.

Afterward, I came home, showered, made Will a chocolate peanut butter pie,

and watched the OU-Kansas State game!

It was nice to see the boys bring home a victory.

We didn’t have much time after the game, and I can’t even recall what we did with that time!

We ended up making a quick trip to Buffalo Wild Wings for Will and Panera Bread for me to grab a quick dinner while we watched the Baylor-OSU game.

I really thought the Bears were going to win this one, so I was pretty surprised.

After that game, the OU basketball team was playing Michigan State (who’s ranked #1 right now), so we flipped over to that. It was a good game for awhile, but eventually Michigan State pulled away.

We even caught up on a couple shows after that, which means bedtime was near midnight.

Who are these wild and crazy kids!?

We slept in until 8 and woke to sleet!

South Oklahoma got pelted with snow, but we didn’t get too much, but did have some ice on the roads. We ended up watching church online and staying in for the day. I did some stuff around the house and then visited my family for a little baking!

We had a good time, and made something I’ll be sharing tomorrow.

Last night was spent getting ready for the week ahead and spending time with Will.

This is going to be the first Thanksgiving Will and I have ever spent apart, and my heart already aches. We sat on the couch and watched more football and just hung out together.

Dinners this week are pretty boring.

I made a big pot of vegetarian chili Saturday, so we’ll have leftovers Monday and Tuesday.

And I fear I’ll be having it for lunch until the day I die. smile

Wednesday I’m going to make Will this buffalo chicken dip that I keep hearing about.

Remember how I hate travelling and being away from Will and it makes me justify cooking him unhealthy food?

Yeah, that’s what this is.

I will be having a sweet potato with tofu.

As for workouts, this week is going to be a little trickier than normal, which is all the more reason to plan ahead.

No workout today, but I plan on hitting the gym Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

Thursday my family and I will be on the road, so no workout that day. I plan on doing one of my at-home workouts (like my cold weather workouts I’ve been sharing!) on Friday and possibly Saturday, and then off again on Sunday as we head home.

Truth be told, I’m happy about the time off and getting to see family (especially my grandma since she is in such poor healthy), but I’m also sad this week since Will and I will be apart. I am focusing on being thankful this week and mindful of all my blessings, and hopefully you are too.

Here’s a look at what I’ll be sharing this week:

-Fall Favorites: Why sometimes you just shouldn’t mess with a good thing
-Another Cold Weather Workout
-Happy Thanksgiving!
-And more!

Check in this week for fun, and let’s make it a good week!

Lots of Football & Look Ahead

Hello pretty princesses!

I’m feeling more optimistic this Monday than usual.

We have a full week of work, and then we get an extended weekend for Thanksgiving, which gives me something to look forward to.

Hopefully you are feeling optimistic too.

This weekend was a busy one! I suppose from here on out, it will be like that until the end of the year.

My weekend started with a trip to our stomping grounds to cheer Will’s alma mater in their state football semi-finals !

We got off work and started the trek to meet Will’s parents for a quick bite. Since we did not have much time before the game, we ate hurriedly and then headed to the stadium.

We had a good time at the game cheering Will’s high school team. High school football games always bring back good memories of my own days in school.

Saturday started way.too.early.

I decided to get up before the crack of dawn to get a workout in before the day started.

I only hit the gym once this week prior to Saturday, and then did an at home workout another day.

I was definitely ready for a good sweat session!

Since I got up so early, I had the whole place to myself.

Leg day, one of my favorites.

I ran for 30 seconds on the treadmill or walked briskly at a 13.0 incline in between each set.

Good way to start the day!

After I got somewhat ready, I took a break to help Will take the dogs to the vet.

It’s no secret by now that it’s a huge production anytime we have to take the dogs to the vet.

We’re wrangling the “Bigs” to get in their harnesses, trying to keep the babies from barking up a storm, and trying to get them all loaded up some sort of organized chaos.

And that’s just getting them loaded in the truck.

We still have to get them to the vet.

You know what? It was crazy, but not too terribly bad. Victory!

After the vet extravaganza, it was time to hurry home, change, and head to Norman for the last OU game of the season!

Saturday’s game was the first morning game of the whole season, and it was a windy one!

The Sooners started slow, but thankfully secured a victory!

OU-IA state Windy Saturday

Afterward, we headed home, and I went to the grocery store while Will watched the OSU-Texas game.

The pups were glad to have us back.

And then?

Then we had pizza.

And breadsticks.

And they were delicious. smile

I think we should end on that note.

Oh- but before we do, I have to also add that I made Will a chocolate pie.

Okay, now let’s call it: Saturday, the end!

Yesterday was uneventful. We missed church, which is a bummer, so we will have to watch online and get caught up in our series sometime this week.

It turned out to be a beautiful day, so Will and I headed out to the country so I could videotape him shooting some of his paintball guns he plans on selling online. It ended up being pretty fun!

We stopped by my parent’s on the way home, as they were outside putting up Christmas lights! Will enjoyed playing with Layla for a few minutes, too.

Afterward, I headed to the gym and worked back and biceps.

I came home and did my usual stuff- laundry, food prep, blogging, and getting ready for the week.

The good news is that I have some fun stuff planned for the week!

But we will get to that soon enough.

We’re trying to keep dinners light and simple for the most part considering next week will be full of giant meals (yes meals, plural) and lots of leftovers.

For that reason this week’s menu only consists of salads for most of the week as well as homemade lasagna.

As for workouts, I plan on three sessions at the gym:

As well as 1-2 at home cardio/plyo workouts

As for posts? I have us covered too!

Here’s a look at this week’s fun:

-My absolute fall favorite: Mashed sweet potatoes <3
-Another cold weather workout
-My November Ipsy review
-Friday Favorites

Check in tomorrow.

Now off to tackle Monday. Make it a good one!

More to come…

The Long Recap & Look Ahead

Hey, it’s the last week of October!?

How did that even happen?

This month was crazy for me. I realize many of you might travel a lot, but for the most part these days I stay put.

However, October had me in Indiana, Texas, and Washington D.C. all in one month. And that feels like a whirlwind, even if some of those trips were full of fun.

This month has been such a blur. Oftentimes looking ahead instead of enjoying the moment at hand. Living to Thursday night as we looked forward to having Friday off for OU-Texas weekend. Surviving the week after and getting readjusted to having no breaks in sight until Thanksgiving. Looking ahead and dreading my trip to DC, and praying the days away so I could rush home.

And here we are. The end of the month.

Slow down.

Didn’t I post about that recently?

I feel I need to back up past the weekend a little to commemorate a wonderful night with my friend Theresa.

After work Wednesday night I drove to suburbia to visit Theresa and her family

The route was very scenic, and I didn’t even get lost!

I got there and was greeted by Theresa and got the grand tour of their beautiful house.  Soon after, Theresa’s husband arrived with little Kayla in tow!

I see pictures and hear stories about Kayla, but it was so nice to finally get to meet her and see her cuteness in real life! Since she was in her element there wasn’t any stranger danger, so we had a good time!

As Todd got Kayla ready for bed, Theresa and I continued chatting and started dinner together.

Can I tell you how nice it was just to be at home? I felt so comfortable and, well, at home.

I don’t like being away from home much these days, and even just a couple nights away leave me homesick. However, this trip wasn’t really like that since I had such good company!

After dinner, we chatted some more about anything and everything, from work, to kids, to faith.

I was so thankful for that evening!

A great evening at home with Terry.

We’ll just glaze over Thursday’s trip home since it was a loooong one. Plus I think I bought a little cold back home with me. Blah.

We’ll glaze over Friday too. Again, long day.

Friday night was low key, as usual these days. We got Subway for dinner and watched a show or two before calling it a night.

Seriously, Will’s hours are such a drag.

On Saturday, we got up super early, and Will went to work while I slowly worked out. Since I wasn’t feeling my best, I took it easy on myself and didn’t in a very good workout.

In fact, I barely broke a sweat!

I figured it was better than nothing, and that I also needed to take it easy on myself since I wasn’t feeling the greatest.

Afterward, I did some light cleaning! I even managed to do the fans too. smile

Bye bye dust!

Will got home, we got ready for the day, and then headed to Norman to cheer on the Sooners!

It was drizzly the whole way there.

As you can see- Will loved the weather. smile

Thrilled About the rain delay <img src=">

When we got into the stadium, we learned there was an hour rain delay.

We coped by sharing an overpriced box of peanut M&Ms.

Rain delay

(Will opening up our loot)

Hey, sometimes it has to happen.

Plus I hear they cure colds?

The game started as anticipated, and for awhile it had me pretty nervous! Thankfully, the Sooners pulled off the upset and brought home a victory!

And it was so much fun, even in the rain.

Here we are trying to look bummed about the rain, but we’re not disguising our smiles very well. smile

Trying to look bummed about the rain (but can't hide smiles)

One my favorite all-time Sooner memories was back in 2008 when Tech was ranked #1 and came to OU and we beat them! The game day environment was pretty much unparalleled to any other game I had been to. It was pandemonium, and so so much fun.

In fact- on every third down the started playing Jump Around, and I kid you not, nearly every person in that stadium got crazy, even the old blue-haired ladies!

One of the best games ever.

Anyway, while Saturday wasn’t exactly like that, but it still was fun!

After the early morning, we pretty much went to sleep as soon as we got home!

But not before I did a little food prep. I made quinoa with cranberries and slivered almonds and roasted sweet potato for lunch this week.

Sunday was a church online day. I definitely like going so much better, but that did not happen! I still wasn’t feeling the greatest, so I skipped the gym altogether. Hopefully the rest does me good.

We got up late, and I got a start on laundry and some cooking for the week. I showered, barely got ready, and headed over to see my girls!

We went to this super cute tiny coffee shop for a small treat! I got an iced tea latte with soy. The weather was absolutely beautiful yesterday, so we drove to a nearby park and walked around and enjoyed the day!

I hung out with them a bit longer after getting home, and then I went back to my house to do some more stuff for the week ahead.

And here we are, Monday all over again.

Here’s what on the menu for us this week:

-Stir Fry w/marinated chicken for Will & Gardein chicken for me

-Black beans & Tacos w/shredded beef for Will & Gardein shredded beefless tips for me

Here’s my workout plan:

I’m still not feeling my best, so I’m going to hold off on any high intensity cardio. Instead, I plan on doing the following:

-Tuesday: Chest, Triceps, & Shoulders & 15 minutes light cardio
-Wednesday: 45 minutes elliptical
-Friday: Back, Biceps, & Shoulders, & 15 minutes light cardio
-Leg Circuit

And here’s a look at what I’ll be posting about this week!
-Healthy Pumpkin Protein Bars
-What the heck are supersets?
-October Ipsy Review!
-And more!

Check in tomorrow!

Capital Kings: I Feel So Alive

Seriously- go buy this song for your next workout.

It is so uplifting and true! I mentioned in a past post that I’ve struggled with what I listen to during my workouts, and this song has been such a great replacement for my typical music.

Plus it’s got a trance-y feel which I love during cardio.

I’m slightly overwhelmed with the pumpkin-ness in the world these days.

It’s like my sensory skills drank a pack of Red Bulls, went out to a pumpkin patch and started envisioning all sorts of crazy things like M&Ms and creamers, and even face masks.

Only they are not imagined.

They are real things.

Yes, pumpkin M&Ms are REAL THINGS.

Anyway, loving the pumpkin-ness of fall.

While we’re discussing food, let’s talk about grapes.

And how delicious they are.

Grapes on the way to TX

I’m sure you all know this by now, but I hadn’t had grapes in a while, and holy cow! They’re like so great.

Yes, clearly I don’t get out much.

The Crazy Ones.

Please tell me you’ve watched it?

We don’t watch a ton of comedies but added this one and the Goldbergs to our fall lineup.

Will is a Robin Williams fan, so he totally loved it from the get-go. I found it really entertaining, too.

Oh, and please tell me when you see Sarah Michelle Gellar you think about Buffy the Vampire Slayer too?

Phase 1 Insanity
Lately I’ve been doing my own boot camp workouts (um, because they totally kick my butt!), however this week I went back to doing a few Insanity Phase One workouts to change it up on cardio days. I seriously like those workouts. They are so tough but also so fast! I am much better about doing those than riding an elliptical for 45 minutes.

Favorite Pic of the week:

Um, angel pouty lips. I love that baby so much.

Favorite event this weekend:
An OU-away game.

Sometimes watching the game from the the comfort of your own house with good snacks nearby is such a treat. Don’t get me wrong, I love game days, but we’ve been on the road a lot this season with the Sooners!

I’m also excited about going to Life Church with P! She is going to give it a try this week! I pray it blesses her like it has blessed me.

And don’t forget you can watch online!

So that’s it for me! Anything you’re loving right now I should know about?

OU-Texas Weekend 2013: The Wheels on the Bus

They go round and round.

Round, and round.

Round and round.

That pretty well summarizes our weekend.

Today is as good as any to recap our OU-Texas extravaganza.

I apologize for all the repetitive travel and football posts recently, but, well that’s pretty much what’s been going on these days so that’s what I post about!

Perhaps next year we will pick up a more exhilarating and ever-changing hobby.

But probably not.

Our extended weekend started with a Thursday night wedding! It was for the son of one of our couples in our Life Group.

I know I sound like a broken record, but seriously- can I please tell you how good God is? I am so thankful for getting connected into a small group instead of only going to church and getting lost in the crowd. It has been such a blessing.

The wedding was at the historic Harn Homestead right outside OKC’s capital. I had never been, and it’s a neat little place. The wedding was outside, and the reception was in the barn. I realize that sounds a little redneck, but trust me, it was beautiful!

It was so whimsy inside!

Milk and cookies table

They did a milk and cookie bar, and had a lot of other fun things inside I did not photograph.

Who are these dressed up kids!?

Will got all dressed up so I had to take a couple pictures. smile

I told him he was a little over the top for wearing his suit, but now I’m glad he did since we got to take a few pictures with him all spiffed up.

We got home sort of late, and had to get up early so that was fun! Ha

Friday unfolded just as I predicted, so no real need to recap other than share a few pictures along the way!

Healthy snacking:
Grapes on the way to TX

Bevo Bash:
Bevo Bash

Dinner (did not eat the sauce):
Ruth's Chris dinner

Saturday was game day.

Oh game day.

We got up early, and got around. I thought it might be pretty cool out, so I brought a jacket.

The second we stepped outside, the air took my breath away.

Complete soup.

Literally sweating before 8:00 in the morning.

Like every year, we take the DART bus/train to the State Fair. We got there with no trouble. Yay!

We usually like to buy our coupons and use them before the game so it’s not too busy.

Will got a drink and corny dog. smile

Corny dog time

And I got fried cake balls.

Yes. That says fried cake balls

Fried cake balls. Now off to fun ten miles.

Yes, it’s true. It happened.

Will had one, and I had the others. They were absolutely delicious!

Afterward, we headed to the stadium, sweating all over ourselves along the way.

I can’t believe the humidity!

I immediately put my hair up.

Will says I’m silly, but I swear you can see the humidity haze in this picture!

OU-Texas 2013

OU was supposed to win my double digits, so I was pretty pumped for the game.

Except, we lost by double digits and looked horrible.

Bummer, but it happens sometimes.

Will and I ended up leaving early to beat the crowds.

We got back to the DART train station, and there were lots of helpful workers there to make sure we got on the right train.

The ride was about 25 minutes long, and we were ready for it to be over so we could get back to the hotel.

We rode to the bus station, and hoped to find the same DART workers to help there.

Only unfortunately, no one was to be found.

Luckily, we planned ahead and took a picture of our bus stop that morning to make sure we wouldn’t forget.

The bus ride that nearly caused an aneurism.

The only bummer was that we had to wait about 45 minutes for the next bus to come.

We finally got on the 488 and were ready to roll.

And roll

And roll.

Finally, about 40 minutes in, Will and I realized the bus driver had turned around and it seemed as though he was heading back to the bus station.

Will got up to talk to him and reconfirm we were on the right bus.

He said yes.

We were relieved.

Until he took us back to the station.

Did we really have a conversation about making sure he was stopping at Valley View Lane and he said yes?

Yeah- obviously not.

At this point in the day, I thought Will was going to have a brain aneurism.

Seriously, he was hulking out and I’m pretty sure he even had a vein protruding from both sides of his neck.

Okay. Perhaps I’m exaggerating a lot a little.

So Will and I decided to get off and call the DART helpline.

They were helpful and we got squared away, but we had to wait almost an hour for the next bus.

We were hungry.

We were thirsty.

We were tired.

We were sunburned.

Our team lost, and we were both grumpy.

The afternoon? Not the greatest.

The bus finally came, and 30 minutes later we were at the hotel. We left around 1:30 and got home at 5.

What an afternoon.

By then, we were both wiped and neither of us was up to going out to eat. We ended up eating at our hotel restaurant. Afterward, we showered and were both in bed by about 6:30.

We watched college football (Did you guys see the Michigan-Penn State OT game!?), and went to sleep before 9.

Wild night, I tell you. smile

Sunday is usually a toss up for us. We’ve stayed in Dallas to shop, sometimes we just sleep in, have an early lunch, and take our time heading home, and other times we’ve gotten out of Dodge as early as possible.

This year? We got out of Dodge as early as possible.

We figured we might as well get home early and have time to unpack, prepare for the week, and rest, so that’s what we did!

We were home before 11:30, which was really nice. It gave me time to do food prep for the week, three loads of laundry, and a couple other things (like blogging!).

All in all it was a good weekend despite the loss.

I tried my best to soak up the time because Will is about to start a new grueling work schedule. :( (Think back to our Kuwait schedules, but even a little worse now.)

Just thinking about it makes me feel so sad, and makes me miss him already!

And now no breaks until Thanksgiving! Yikes. Time to keep my head down and plow forward!

Thanksgiving, here we come.

Check in tomorrow for core exercises!

OU-Texas Friday: Totally Predictable

Walking in the rain after the colts game

Well hello there sweets!

It’s Friday, I am off work, and we’re headed down to the Big D for our annual OU-Texas extravaganza!

I always look forward to this trip. It’s not like we do anything super spectacular, but it’s just nice to keep tradition. We always have a lot of fun (um, except for my terrible navigation skills… after that, then it’s fun! smile), and I love the same things we do each time.

I realize it may seem mundane to some, to take part in virtually the exact.same.thing. every single year, but for OU-Texas weekend? I love it.

With that said, let’s start talking about all our fun!

When we first started going down to the game, we would work on Friday.

Which was a big rookie mistake.

A lot of people work on Friday and then head down after.

Which leads to a HUGE caravan on the way down there, passing cars with their OU flags and “Beat Texas” car chalk.

Which is fun and festive and electric until you hit the traffic in Denton.

It’s not fun at all.

For that reason, Will and I have started taking Friday off the last few years, and it has been so nice!

We kiss the pups goodbye (and graciously thank our house-sitter for putting up with all of their crap by filling the fridge with goodies), and make it a leisurely drive.

We always stop in Marietta, Oklahoma for the Bevo Bash, which is pretty fun.

The Carl’s Junior always gives out free burgers for a couple hours, while the sports radio personalities chat about the game. Vendors set up booths for fun shirts and stuff, and it’s just an all around good time to get in the spirit and surround ourselves with other Sooners!

I always give Will my burger and eat a premade lunch I take in our cooler.

By now, I know you’re not surprised that there’s all sorts of craziness available in my cooler. From green monsters, to lunch, to drinks, and snacks. smile

Afterward, we usually mosey on over to Robertsons, which is famous in the area for their meats.

Will stocks up on their beef sticks, and they even have little doggie treats we sometimes get for the Bigs.

After that it’s all business down to Dallas! No lollygagging, as my dad used to say.

We listen to sports radio, chat about “important stuff” we normally don’t talk about and, if I’m lucky, make it to our hotel without multiple detours and a big fat argument.

Seriously- why can’t I read directions!?!

Turn left means turn left!

Exit means exit!

Why is this so hard!?!

Seriously- every.single.year.

Luckily, we are staying in a very familiar area. We sort of alternate between a couple, but this is our favorite.

So that means I’m in good hands, and Will can get us there.

Which means little to no Google Map reading on my part.

We will get there, and I am willing to bet Will will take a nap, while I likely try to do something productive. You know, like play Words with Friends or read blogs on Feedly. Real productive. Haha

Tonight, just like last year and the year before, we will likely go to Ruth’s Chris for dinner.

And tonight, just like last year, I will get the vegetarian option.

And tonight, just like every other night, we will come back, watch some TV, and go to bed before 10.

Because that’s how these 30 somethings roll.

But in our defense? We have a big day.

We have to kick some Texas butt.

So despite the fact this trip sounds painfully mundane and repetitive, we love every minute, so just humor us and let us live.

Until then? Onward ho! Time to pack up and head out.

Stay tuned.

More fun to come, and Boomer!

Another Red River Shootout is upon us, friends.

I realize to most of you this does not mean much, but for life in the B-Love house?

It’s like a national holiday.

The whole week leading up to OU-Texas is intense.

It’s like a whole different vibe around here. Nervousness, excitement, focus.

You call it weird, but we call it normal.

We start thinking about this weekend a couple weeks in advance, even though we’ve been going seemingly forever.

And do the exact.same.things each time.

Yet we still enjoy planning and talking all things OU-Texas.

Yeah I know, just humor us.

This year (like every other year) is no different.

Much like last year, I have my plan in place so I don’t starve the entire time we are at the fair.

For the last few years, I typically allow myself one fair indulgence, and the last two years Will and I actually ended up splitting the treat.

Back in 2010, I seem to remember the game being later in the afternoon, which freed up plenty of time for us to hit up all the trashy food spots.

I distinctly remember having a cinnamon roll, and then sharing fried frito chili pie and fried cheesecake with Will.

Oh that’s right.

I remember because there’s pictoral evidence:

Fair Food

Oh, and do not let the two forks in the cinnamon roll fool you.

That pastry the size of a Mini Cooper?

Only fed one person.

And heshe loved every bite.

The game has been an 11:00 kickoff the last last couple years, which has left less time to meander around for the perfect fried snickers bar.

And after the game?

The fair is a zoo.

I know that’s part of the “fun” and “charm” of having OU-Texas at the state fair (and admittedly even more fun when you win), but quite frankly, it is total, utter sweaty chaos and the only thing we feel like doing is leaving.

Plus, you can almost set your clocks to the fact anually Will and I will either:

A. Get in an argument on the way down to Dallas because of my terrible navigation skills.
B. Get in an argument about where to get in line after the game, how to navigate, how to avoid drunken frat boys and grannies
C. Both

Good times, I can assure you.

No lie, one year after we lost to Texas an old decrepit grandma in a wheelchair, donning a Texas shirt, rolled right into Will and yelled that OU sucks.

And cussed.

Anyway, because of the madness, we generally only stand in line for one thing before departing.

We tend to get along better when this happens, and the expectation is already established.

I have a feeling this year will be much of the same.

Assuming my calculations are correct, here’s a look at what I plan on doing:

-I will pre-make my green monsters for the weekend, so I can get some level of nutrition each day.

-I will also bring oats I can make using the water from the coffee pot in our room. Depending on what Will does for breakfast, I at least have a healthy option. If we go out? Chances are I can find something decent.

-I am also bringing the following snacks along for this trip: apples, almonds, protein, protein bars, and peanut butter.

YES. Peanut butter. Get off me

And, not that I need to justify it (even though I totally am!), with the exception of the one treat we get, I don’t eat at the fair ever. So of COURSE I would need a cinnamon roll the size of a Mini Cooper.

the one where I went to church with P (and didn’t clean the fans) & look ahead

Hello friends!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Has fall weather arrived for you yet?

This was the first weekend that was quintessentially fall.

And it was lovely!

I failed and took hardly any pictures of the weekend festivities.

So when you read this?

Pretend there are tons more visuals. smile

Friday night was low key, as they usually are when Will works Saturday mornings.

We had Subway for dinner and caught up on our shows.

We are so far behind on all of them, so we needed to clear a few off our DVR so they’re ready for more!

Saturday was pretty typical. Will went to work for part of the morning, while I headed to the gym.

I did my usual leg circuit and had the gym all to myself. It was so nice!

After, I cleaned the house.

With all this nice weather, there was no need to run the ceiling fan in the living room, so I turned it off.

Only to realize the thick layer of dust on the blades.

And I had already cleaned.

So the fan went back on.

Hey, it’s going to be in the 80s this week. I’ll clean the fans next time.

I did a couple more things around the house, and then Will got home!

Before we knew it, it was time to get ready and head out to the game.

My boss (I am so blessed to have a great one!) gave me a Chili’s gift card last week, so we ended up using that before the game.

I got a black bean burger (ditched half the bun) with broccoli, and enjoyed Will’s company.

Then, it was time to head to Norman!

The Sooners hosted TCU Saturday night, and it sure proved to be a bit of a nail biter at times!

We stayed the whole time, and were thankful for a victory.

Definitely a fun game.

Yesterday was a good day too, but went way too fast.

Since we got home late, we slept until 8:45. It was so nice!

I got ready quickly, and accompanied P to church!

She is trying to find a church home, and so I am going to visit a few with her until she decides which is best for her and Layla.

It was really nice getting to go to church with her.

We had a good chat as we headed there, so that was nice too.

The service was a blessing, and it is evident the church is growing and seeking God in all they do.  In fact, they began a sister church that is now on its own and supporting itself. P decided she wanted to try that one too, so I will visit there with her soon.

Afterward, we headed home, but not before I got to see this little one.

LuHow cute is she!?!

By the time I got home, it was well after 1:00, and I still had tons to do!

For that reason, I felt rushed and behind all day.

And still didn’t get through my weekend chore list.

I hate starting the week that way!

I managed to get all the laundry done, and food prep for the week, which are the biggest.

So why am I complaining! smile

The rest of Sunday night was spent getting posts ready for the week and watching shows with Will.

And now? It’s Monday.

The good news is that we have fun stuff planned to help get us through!

Here’s what the B-Love Family is having for dinner this week:

-As previously mentioned, I’m totally trying this roasted vegetable penne (minus the gouda for me). I think it is going to be delicious!

-We are also having this salsa chicken (but with black beans instead of chicken for me)

-And Will requested one of his favorite casseroles his mom makes, so I’m making that for him (and I will have leftover penne)!

It’s OU-Texas week, so my workouts will be a little different than usual.

Usually, I prefer to lift at the end of the week, when I have more time at the gym, and I like my cardio sessions earlier in the week when I don’t feel like getting up early!

However, this week will be a little different:

-Monday: Back, biceps, shoulders & 10 minutes high intensity cardio
-Tuesday: Legs
-Thursday: Chest, triceps, shoulders & 10 minutes high intensity cardio

And then? Then I hope to squeeze at least one cardio session in over the weekend.

I’d love two cardio sessions, but I want to be realistic.

Here’s a look at what we’ll be talking about this week:

-An Introduction to Fair Food

-An Outdoor, At-Home Workout

-More Than a Cinderella Story

-OU-Texas Weekend begins

And hopefully more!

Check in this week, friends! Thanks for reading, and I’m sending prayers all of our ways today that we shine bright in all we do.

More to come…

Will and Brittny Go to Indiana!

Well hello my dears!

Another Friday is upon us.

So, as you know, Will and I took a trip to Indiana this past weekend!

Will has an appreciation for football traditions and has wanted to visit the Notre Dame campus for a long time, so when OU signed up for a home and home with the Irish, I knew we would be making the trip.

You may remember last year’s sad defeat.

It was such a bummer. Seriously. The hype leading up to the game was huge. We striped the stadium, they gave away towels, we had a flyover and a fun pregame…

So yeah- when we lost it hurt.

We knew going into this year, there was a chance we could lose, considering we had a new quarterback at the helm and this would be our first away game.

In hostile territory!

With Knight going down, and Bell stepping in after an excellent game in Tulsa, the team seemed more cohesive and the odds appeared to be in our favor, making our trip all the more exciting.

So if you will indulge me, I present to you our trip recap!

We took off Friday, and the morning was a little crazy.

Thankfully, the littles got to stay home with our awesome house sitter (thank you!!) , however the Bigs had to be boarded.

Getting the dogs to the vet is always crazy.

We got it done, came home, got ready for the day, and headed out to the airport!

So, you pretty much can’t get anywhere direct from OKC.

The joys of small metropolis living.

I always pack prepared for the first day of travelling, as you recall from this post, so I was pretty much set most of the day.

I was like the children’s birthday magician that just kept pulling crap out of my bag. I’m pretty sure Will expected a white rabbit to come out at some point.

We had a layover and ate at Buffalo Wild Wings, which isn’t the greatest for a vegan, but I did my best and got their hummus and veggies. I ditched half the hummus (it wasn’t that good) and half the pita. I would have skipped all the pita bread, but, well…

it was pretty good. smile

Lunch date at the airport- ditched half the hummus and pita

We got in around 5 and had to drive two hours to our hotel (long story that I will not bore you with).

We had such a great morning, but as is with many of our travels, I ended up getting us lost.

Thankfully it wasn’t a big deal and we were back on track in no time. We had a spat (um, which I always anticipate when we are driving in uncharted territory) but seriously, in all our years of marriage? This was our best travel day by far.

Yay for us! smile

We got to our hotel, watched some TV, and that was about it!

Pretty low key day, centered totally around travelling.

Saturday was all about GAME DAY!

We got up early and headed to South Bend. We got in around 11 and had Chick-Fil-A for lunch. I got a yummy salad and ditched the chicken.

OU-ND pre game lunch

We got some good directions that allowed us to park for free, and also allowed us to enjoy a nice walk to the stadium.

Guys, it was so beautiful!

I really enjoyed our jaunt to the university, surrounded by other OU fans, charming houses, and changing trees.

The campus is as beautiful as everyone says, and then some.

Especially as the leaves started to change. They were just starting last weekend, so I can only imagine how striking the campus is as their trees begin to change to bright shades of orange, red, and brown!

Kickoff wasn’t until 3:30, so we did a lot of walking! We saw so much in such little time.

Their cathedral is stunning,

ND cathedral ceiling

B&W at notre dame

as is their admissions building.

Heck, even their library is pretty cool!

The only time I've seen will in a library

And let’s not forget Touchdown Jesus!

>Touchdown Jesus!  And a Will <img src=">

After we walked around a bit, we headed to the stadium and were among the first in line! Everyone was friendly, and they have a cute little opening welcome statement before they open the gates which was sort of cool. (I’ve been trying to upload a few videos of the fun to no avail… yet. smile )

We got to our seats and were pretty surprised.

Yes, those are wooden benches

Yep, those are old wooden bleachers.

Amongst all the pomp and splendor of Notre Dame, their stadium is…a bit lacking?

Will says it’s tradition.

I say it’s an anomaly.

The bleachers were narrow and jam packed. No TV screen, and the band stands on the sidelines.

Just seemed so weird!

We were so packed and had a few big guys in our row and had a really hard time sitting down. It was crazy!

The one cool thing, though, is that for some reason you seem to be closer to the field than any stadium I’ve been to. You really feel part of the whole experience, and that was neat!

BnW OU-Notre Dame

The game?

Was so much fun. It was quite a game! Both teams fought hard, and it was so exciting to see the Sooners win.

The Irish fans we came across were very gracious. I don’t think we’ve ever been congratulated more on a win than by their fans. Definitely good fans and a good time.

It was only our second victory in all our 11 matchups!

I was pretty surprised to hear Will say this was probably his favorite football game we’ve gone to of all time thus far, even surpassing our trip to the Super Bowl.

I guess the tradition of the Irish runs deep!

After the game we walked back to our car and headed to the hotel.

Fun, fun day.

Sunday was so much fun too!

When we booked our trip last year, we hoped either the Bears or Colts would be playing at home (hence the fact that our hotel was ages away from South Bend), but unfortunately neither were. However, we still made plans to go to Indy for the remainder of the trip, since I’ve never been.

We drove to Indy Sunday morning and set up shop at the Colts Grille. It was so so much fun, guys! We were there for an hour before the game, as well as the entire Colts game. We sat in a corner and Will did his fantasy football while we chatted and ate…

And ate…

Veggie burger

And ate.

One downer about being holed up at a sports bar during the game is that you just keep eating.

The game was so much fun, and I see why people go to sports restaurants to watch them. We were surrounded by Colts fans and the atmosphere was electric.

Watching the colts game

We ordered an appetizer, and I picked out most of the dry chips leaving Will the nacho-y ones.

I had their veggie burger and salad for my main course (and yes, I ate the bun too),

And then had about 3 bites of the chocolate cake Will was too full to polish off.

Yeah- we ate a ton.

(And ate nothing until late the next day!)

We got back to our hotel early that evening and watched some of our favorite shows and just took it easy.

Vacation is great.

Monday was just as leisurely.

We both slept in, and I finally managed to get a workout in. I hoped to workout twice, but only did once. Just glad I did something!

We ended up going driving half an hour to Perkins to have breakfast for lunch.

Have I told you guys how much we like that place?

I’m sure I have.

But here’s a quick recap. When we took our first vacation from Kuwait in 2005, we visited Minneapolis and had breakfast there.

And ever since, it’s become a tradition to eat Perkins for breakfast anytime we are near one.

So we did just that!

And I even splurged and had a 500 calorie muffin (yikes! Definitely not something I would advise any other time!).

It was delicious.

Perkins muffin

Afterward, we went downtown. OKC Mayor Mick Cornett tells a story about how his visit to Indy inspired him to think big for OKC, and much of the beauty we restored down town into our beloved Bricktown area (and beyond!) was based on Indianapolis.

And he wasn’t lying- there are a lot of similarities, only Indy is much bigger.

We tried to go up in the tower dedicated to their veterans, but it was closed!

Tried to go in the tower but it was closed!

Bummer. Will had been once before, but I never have.

We had a good time walking around though.

B and W in Indy

We enjoyed the rest of the afternoon, and then headed back to the hotel to rest.

We had to get up at 1:30 the next morning to drive back to South Bend to catch our flight (yes- I realize all the driving was ridiculous.) back to OK.

Thankfully, I did not get us lost on the return trip. The drive was easy, and thanks to these puppies,

Heated seats. Best thing ever for long car trips and AC wars

I didn’t nag Will about freezing the whole way.

We got back into town around noon, and had plenty of time to unpack, do a load of laundry, and get ready for the week ahead (which thankfully is now complete!).

The Government shutdown has made for a quiet week at my office, so I was able to catch up much faster than I anticipated. I really thought everyone would be back to work by today, but I suppose I am too optimistic.

So that, my friends was our trip recap! Thank you for indulging me.

I hope you guys had a great week.

I don’t know about you but I sure am ready for the weekend!

Check in, more to come! <3
